'06 TRD RR Locker only in 4L...really??

so i been getting really annoyed with my rear tires always spinning on slick surfaces, mainly recently with the ice and snow in denver. in 4wd my truck kicks the elements' ass without hesitation but in 2wd i have to be careful not to make one wheel break free...
so i been doing some looking on some threads and reading about using the locker on speeds >5mph against what the directions say on the door for using the rear locker...
i knew that the locker worked in 4L, but i figured that i'd be able to engage it in 2wd and allow me to ride with the rear locked...nope

so can you only lock the rear in 2wd if you don't have 4wd? or is there something wrong with my truck? i would like the option to lock up my rear diff if i'm in something besides 4L where obviously i can't gain any speed...

yes i know..this is quite the rant, but it's getting annoying..anyone else have this issue?

In snow and ice I mean.

I understand the point in other applications (sand, crawling, etc.)

 

if its at all slick or slippery in any amount then some would rather be in 2wd with a locker and save gas money rather than being in 4wd all day... just better be ready to disengage if you're headed towards dry ground and corners are coming up

its just a user preference thing. i personally wouldn't. my level of trying to gain traction goes like this...2wd to 4hi to 4 low to lockers...now in certain situations i would be in 4hi with lockers but i dont see a scenario where i will be in 2wd with lockers. i dont worry about gas now i'm not sure if there are other situations or reasons the OP prefers to be in 2wd with lockers as opposed to 4hi...id be curious to hear them.

RWD vehicles already have trouble in slick because all the push is coming from the relatively light rear...this is what causes the ass to get loose in the first place...so let's add traction back there?

mainly looking for time when i'm commuting to work and come up to a slick stop light on a hill or bank where i don't need to be in 4wd for anytime except for starting so i'm not spinning one wheel trying to get going looking like a jackass...simple solution, yes put it in 4H which i would end up doing if i need traction, but this post is also a wtf...locker only in 4L? then i searched some more and found the mod where i can have locker in 4H as well...
plus it'll help with my donuts
i do like how the new lsd sound where if one wheel spins like that, the lsd will slow down the free spinning wheel to put more power to the gripping tire...

 

and who doesn't like controlled fish tails around the side streets during the winter?

 

So...pop it into 4Hi, get moving, and pop it back out...shift on the fly for a reason?

To answer your other question, ToMoCo likely enabled the locker only in 4Lo to decrease the chance of accidents and/or vehicle breakage due to morons punching buttons and having no idea what they do.

 

it will be easier to get your vehicle into 4hi than it will to get the locker engaged

 

x2. You have to massage the locker a little bit to get it to work right...much like a...never mind.

 

yea sometimes my 4wd is like that too when it's below 0...

 

I really only see benefits to two of the new electronical doodadderies:

- VSC is really nice in snow/winter conditions. I mean REALLY nice. As in, keeping-retards-alive nice. I can basically do everything wrong and not have an accident. And believe me, in an empty mall parking lot, I tried.

- The Traction Control Systems That Shall Remain Nameless bring us closer to true locked 4WD without the added drivetrain stress.

 

I'm hoping to obfuscate his apparent constant searches for any and all threads containing those terms.
