My sacrificial offering to the Toyota gods

    20220408_101025.jpg

Rather than just cut the harness in half, I decided to take it apart to get the full length of the wire.

Easily crimped the loose wire to the new stuff and used the lower part of the intake manifold to shrink the heatshrink :bananadead:

While I was there, figured it was a better time than any to replace what vacuum lines I could replace.

Have a ton of the factory stuff, so those just get cut up to replace what I need.

The silicone tubing Todd suggested came in handy to replace the bigger stuff. You slip it on any of these fittings and that stuff just grips it nice and tight.

    No more CEL (for now)!

Ouch, glad I never had to do that on either my 5VZ's.

Something I may have no noticed before but I am hearing a very faint, odd noise.

Has anyone here heard an FCA Ecodiesel. When you're near one, and hear it accelerate from a stop, there's that slight "growl/tap" noise...hard to describe but it's very distinct.

Anyway, when I'm stopped, in gear, and accelerate that same sound happens for at most...1/2 second.

When I'm stopped, and in park, and accelerate, no noise.

When I'm stopped, and in reverse gear, and accelerate, no noise.

It's not my exhaust, or the shields over the exhaust manifold. It sounds *almost* like it's inside the engine. Again it only happens from a stop, going forward.

I've definitely heard pinging before as I've tuned several vehicles before.

I did confirm that none of the hoses I replaced came loose, and none of them collapsed for any reason.

    It's odd.

I'll run a datalog tomorrow and watch ST and LT knock and rule out pinging.

If you know the sound then you would know unless the cruiser sounds diff but ive always heard the same kind of noise. My second gen tacoma ping'd all the time under low end load. It was weird.

Shit I need to do a dump run tomorrow so I'll be busy for the first part of the day.

Hoping it is pinging and I'm hearing it differently than I remember. I just don't remember hearing it before fixing the knock sensor wire.

Unless it goes into stupid mode with no knock sensor and you are running on retarded timing all the time. Now that you fixed it, its retarding just enough to keep it from throwing a code. I honestly wouldnt be surprised if you got bad gas someone was hoarding with how crazy shit it right now.

Only goes into limp if both sensor readings are off.

I only had 1 sensor "disconnected" and it ran the same as it ran before the issue.

I only recall hearing the noise a good 3-4hrs after fixing the sensor wire.

I was parked at my storage and had it running over 20 minutes before leaving. That's when I heard it for the first time o_O

Ah fuck it I'm overthinking it right now

See if someone advanced the timing, it's 3° BTDC from factory. Some folks turn it up to 6-7 and it can knock off idle

    No way! That’s crazy!

But I guess that woulda been right around when they would have starting phasing them out.
