    Is there a lower level that a footing drain could have run to?
    If everything is flat, sometimes the only option is sump pumps.

    Even here, where I’m on a slope with a walkout basement, weird things can happen. Spring of ‘07 the ground had only thawed right around the house, which apparently forced the water during a heavy rain to come in every joint & crack in the basement floor.
    Only had 1/2” of water, but part of the basement was carpeted - had to remove all of it.
    No sign that had happened in the 20+ years the house had already been there, or since.

    A number of years ago was tent camping at a wooded campground with sites pretty well spread apart. Middle of the night I got up to pee. Figured I could just water a nearby tree.
    About 75’ away, heard a dog fussing in a tent, then a flashlight lit me up.
    Hadn’t actually pulled anything out yet, and thought they’d see what up and just shut the flashlight off. No, kept the light on me for quite a while so I turned & walked down to the camp bathroom.
