285/75r16(33’s) on stock rims

Stock UCAs have less issues with rubbing compared to static aftermarket UCAs.

 

What do you mean by "static" UCAs?

I've been wondering about this anyways, my SPC UCAs seemed to have better clearance from the wheel than the stock ones.

Has anyone been able to avoid wheel spacers with 285s and aftermarket UCAs?

I felt picking up UCA's would be a smart move and decided late in the acquisition stage to get a set. I did a fair bit of research. There was one key peice of information that I missed some how.... the non-adjustable UCA's correct steering geometry but in the wrong direction... they pull the centre line of the hub rearward, not forward. This makes rubbing even with stock tires a real possibility.

Oh well... I have them now. The truck drives great. Maybe they will change down the road to something that will move the centre line forward... like SPC's.

SPCs can only adjust from stock location to moving the center line back. So most people will set the SPCs back to the stock UCA location. Max out the LCA cam bolts completely that moves the tire forward. Then you adjust camber at the SPCs. I don't think the geometry would allow you to move the center line forward due to losing way to much caster. There are some companies that have built LCAs with 2* additional caster added that really pushes the tire forward a lot.

 

I have 285/75/16 on stock OR wheels with 2" lift. Without a wheel spacer you will hit the UCA. Once I added a 1.25 spacer it clears the UCA but will rub on some of the plastic. You may need a CMC if you go off roading hard. I need to get mine cut. As mentioned, a 0 offset wheel seems to be the magic number for no rubbing.

 

285/75/16 KO2s rubbed on Nolathane UCAs with Stock TRD OR wheels and no spacers with a 2" lift for me. Adding 0.75"(19mm) Bora spacers fixed the UCA rubbing, and I still have plenty of clearance with the cab mount and fender liner. The studs stick out a few mm from these spacers, but the TRD OR wheels have pockets that avoid interference.

 

I did this on my steely spare to match my 285/70/17 without buying a fifth wheel.

 

So by the look of it here, spacers are a must if you're aiming for 285's on the factory wheels, right?

As mentioned you can drive home without the spacer but it will rub on the UCA really bad when you turn. I went with a 1.25 spacer. Been over a year now with no issues.

Did mine today with 285 75r 16 and a 3/4 inch spacer and no lift. Had to remove the front mud flaps. No idea on gas mileage yet

 

Do you have any rubbing on that?

 

I did on the plastic where the cab is pinched but I took a heat gun and stick now it’s golden. UCA and body mount are perfect so not replacing or chopping.
