This gets me everytime lol. It's not about what they should buy, they are asking for tips on buying what they want.

I think all models are great. Each trim allowing you to get a blanker and blanker canvas for whatever you want to throw at it. Just all depends how much you want to be wrenching it to get it to what you want, especially if it will be your daily.

Noticed in most Pro threads OR owners come in and say Pro is overpriced and not worth it, get the OR and do xyz. Being in Canada our pricing and model structure is different so I went to the USA site to see what the deal was. Unless I did it wrong it looks like to jump from OR premium to Pro is around $6k. That's not small $, but when spending $44k on an OR I wouldn't call it outrageous to go to next trim up. It's more up front, but when it comes time to sell you potentially would actually come out ahead with the Pro depreciations wise. IE Pro would cost you less overall.

I feel like it's easier to get one of these in USA. I've been waiting for mine for 6 months and still have no idea when or if it will come. Maybe they prioritize the ones with mark-ups in USA?? That's not really a thing where we live so it's basically straight msrp or slightly under, but waits seem longer.

Once you configure an OR with all the options a PRO comes with it's only a few thousand difference in price.

Yes you can always build a cheaper truck that'll run circles around the PRO. I'd rather write a check and drive the truck that I like off the lot without spending the time to upgrade it myself knowing full well that it's spending most of its life on pavement.

This. If you get an OR with the tech package is only a few grand less than a TRD Pro. The TRD Pro has better resale value so in practice the difference for overall cost of ownership is even less dare I say the TRD Pro might even be cheaper. If you don’t want all that stuff sure get a base model OR, I did so Pro it was. I just put a deposit down at my dealer and waited.

    :rofl:Yeah - don’t buy a PRO
A Ferrari / corvette / Tesla plaid are much faster - just buy one of them and forego the overrated Pro… you can alway lift hem and make a much faster off-roader for the same money.

All car makers make various trims… I don’t think VWs GLI, or BMW’s M catch as much flack from the austere edition club…

In the end- a bro modded sr5 / sport / oR is viewed by a prospective buyer as suspicious and you get no value from bro mods on resale… on the contrary - there is a very real “modded vehicle discount…” - especially if said mods are in fact used to their supposed potential. (As it is the reason for going that route.)

modding any vehicle is not wise financially - ever. Great if is provides enjoyment, but not wise financially…

a PRO in 10 years is still a PRO.
I was looking for a well equipped OR. When I realized that this was the same price as a Pro - I focused my search on a Pro at that point - and simply got lucky!

The OR is great - super capable - and would have suited me fine. the PRO is just a bit better. (The Cool PRO Color, Go-fast logos, and all the spiffy bits, the PrO club benefits, etc…)
    I don’t need anything more…

It was all about the manual gearbox for me. I never intended to build a rock crawler - and I have better things to do than piece together a truck myself (- I’m spending enough time on it already!) and voiding all warranties…

For the same $$$ no sane person would choose a lower trim.
Even if only to sell it and buy the austere trim you need…
    :D

My dealer told me '24 will be the first model year of the next gen tacoma. This is especially believable with the current supply chain issues.

I got my 2021 Pro with no markup. I did a nationwide search on cargurus, and called then all. Found a Lunar Rock that was incoming. No deposit needed, and paid MSRP when it came in 6 weeks later. So it's is possible.

I bought mine last week (April 2022) at a dealership in orange county. I paid 5K over MSRP for a certified pre-owned 21' pro with 3k miles on it. the color and config i wanted.
It was the only one i could find within 250miles, practically in the state.
I called a few nearby dealerships and they were asking 10K over msrp. One had a lime green coming i wasnt interested.

I paid the dealership their juice price to get mine, but i got it immediately, and saved myself the time and stress of hunting and fighting. Like most/everything, kinda boils down to your time vs money vs need scenario. All things considered, i decided i didnt want to wait.

Manual trans plays a difference as well, as its way less common.

I was not optimistic that i would be able to snipe one in the production line at msrp sucessfully within a reasonable timeframe. But its totally doable if you put the work in.
I also went for a pro vs. upgrading an OR to better-than-pro for the same relative money. if you catch my drift.

You’re going to get bent-over and there is no way around it. A buyer has zero leverage in trying to negotiate price on a Tacoma in general, let alone a TRD Pro.

It took me several months of checking cargurus every morning at 4AM and I found one a couple hundred miles away and sent an email to them with a follow up call when the dealership opened. I did everything over the phone and internet and had it delivered.

The Bilstein 5100s are not as good as the stock pro set up; however, they are a great value with strong performance. I know, I have had 4 sets of them on many rigs. In fact in my avatar photo my SAS 4Runner had them. If you want better kit save for the Kings and that is what I have my eyes on.

    Just my two cents.

That's a great story especially that you got a manual, but $5K over the original new price MSRP for a CPO??

Yup. It was an immaculate 6spd with a virgin clutch, and exactly what i wanted, so i bought it before someone else could <3

CPO also gets 7yr/100k limited powertrain, vs 3yr/36k on a new one. which overlaps a bit with the 10y/100k which i also got with the truck

I got mine for $1500 below msrp and no dealer fees. But I’m in Canada and dealers can’t markup above msrp.
