I have a 98 reg 4x4 DLX on 14” 600lb springs. The ride is pretty harsh daily driving.

What spring rate are you reg cab guys/gals running? I’m thinking of going down to 550’s or even 500’s. Currently have no bumper mods or anything extra sprung weight in the front

I believe stock is in the mid 500 range. I did a quick google, and that's the consensus, and aligns with what I remember from long ago.. most aftermarket COs are 600 lbs, and folks with bumpers often opt up to 650.

I think you would want to stick to the same height spring- I believe 14" (but you need to confirm that for Fox C/Os). I'd suggest reaching out to a shop who can advise you. Once you start changing spring rate, you need to consider valving as well- you might get a softer spring, but the valving is tuned for the 600lb spring. It all has to play together nicely.

good to know. I’ll call Poly performance a local off-road shop and get their advice

Yo, what was the general consensus on what spring rate you should run when you talked to poly performance?

    I went from 650lb 14” to 550lb 14” on sway a way 2.0s. This is on my 99 ext cab 4cyl prerunner.

I wouldn’t go any lighter that 550, I think it’s good for me but may be bouncy for some. With the right valving I think it rides perfect.

Do you mean bouncy as in kind of floaty? Or like rigid bouncy? I only ask because I have a 4cyl regular cab and most suspension setups seem rough riding. I’m starting to think the difference in weight between the reg cab and the access/double cabs could be why that is, and is making me consider a lighter spring. The coilovers im looking at I believe have 600# coil springs tho so I guess we’ll see where that puts us

If they already have the 600s and you have the time to mess around with it, I would just start with those and see how you like it. Valving on the shocks will have more of an effect than dropping 50lbs in spring rate.

If we’re just talking about a daily driver (not a heavy off-roader) is custom valving necessary with Fox performance elites? The 6” ones to be more specific
