as long as you’re happy! Some people have the means to go this route and that’s okay too.

I highly recommend searching the inventory list that you can find here: https://flatgithub.com/kissmygritts/flatdata-vehicle-inventory?filename=inventory.json ; this is a great service from other forum members, as described in this thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tacoma-inventory-spreadsheet.714583/ . I started searching this on a daily basis to see new TRD pros that matched my criteria, and I then contacted the dealers to see if they were available. Most trucks were pre-sold, but got lucky and found one that was not. As others have said, you don't have a lot of negotiating leverage, but if you are diligent, you will find one.

It helps to have a higher volume dealer. I'm patient and too lazy to reach out to multiple dealers.

If I weren't picky about color or absolutely wanting a manual transmission I would've gotten a Pro 4 times at my dealership.

I placed my deposit end of January and my salesman called me a week later telling me he got a black Pro 6MT in. I passed on it.

I've passed on a white auto and 2 green autos as well. So that's 4 Pros in about 2 months time. I'm patient and will keep waiting for a white manual.

Can you imagine if, a couple years ago, people were actually thinking that buying a vehicle for or slightly above MSRP was a good deal? The prices will eventually come down, and then there will be a lot of guys who are upside down in the vehicle loan. It's just like the big housing bubble fiasco, on a smaller monetary scale.

Find a salesperson that's transparent with you. Do your research and homework to the point where you know more about the allocation process than them so they don't screw you over and potentially give your allocation to another buyer who's willing to pay a markup. Insist on weekly updates if you do go forward with a deal, it's their job to serve you. Get a signed agreement saying they'll honour the price from deposit to delivery. Don't worry so much about the tonneau cover, steps, rails, accessories, etc. Those can be added afterwards at the dealer. Worry about the colour and transmission when it comes to a PRO, that's all you need to care about.

I've been following Tacomas and pricing since around when the X-Runner came out so circa 2005/6. Prices have steadily only gone up since then. I don't think price bubble is going to randomly burst on new cars, unless we actually have some sort of large scale war that spills out from where it currently rages. At least we are talking Tacoma, one of if not the best resale value vehicle out there so even if it happens it hopefully won't be as bad as it could be on another brand that is currently selling for MSRP or mark-ups.

Hookers and blow, but not sure I'd get my money worth vs a Pro-Bro :burp:

So you will know that Tacoma’s always sold under MSRP , 10% range. People are paying over MSRP. The 20 year history should tell you back to normal is the best bet(while MSRP will always increase every few years)

I’m a loaded OR buyer. They only thing that prevented me from buying a Pro was color choice.

When I purchased on 12/1/2020, the market was completely different than the current market.

I see a lot of comments about huge markups on price for these trucks new (which I do not doubt exists) but NO ONE should buy from those dealerships. I have spoken to the 3 closest Toyota dealers in my area and none of them charge over MSRP. Also, not everyone wants the hassle of building "your truck the way you want it" which is another thing I see a lot of, if I bought an OR there are things that I would not get that would cost me a lot more in the long run. Getting a TRD PRO at MSRP is a great deal for people that don't want to buy upgrades and just use the truck as it's intended. I put down a $500 deposit for an allocation on a Pro and I am #1 on the list for if/when they get an allocation. Just order the truck you want and do not work with crappy dealers.

The thing is that the people you're describing don't need pros in the first place.

This is exactly how I got mine. The person ahead of me in line got the cement and I ended up with the white.

On my daily drive to work I drive by a high-end lifted trucks stealership and they have a '21 Pro Lunar Rock auto with 11K miles for $69,999.00. It appears to only have some cheap bronze aftermarket wheels. The crazy thing is it may not last long.

No offense to anyone posting, but this really depends on your own financial ability and the intended use. I for one came from a FJ Cruiser that was built up and did a lot of off roading, but no rock crawling or anything like that. I decided that I wanted a little more luxury and nicer interior as well as overall capability in handling, durability, and protection. This was going to be my daily and literally a mall crawler say 95% of the time. Before I knew it, the mod bug got me again and I was adding $10-15k of crap before I knew it on a pro!! lol. Do I care? no. Do I enjoy the ride way more? heck yeah! To each their own. I just can't help but laugh whenever someone says you're getting screwed because you spent $0-100> more for something you like. Current time overall should tell you that buying anything (homes, wood, fuel, whatever) is different from 3 years ago (that price on a lunar is pretty crazy though lol). To the OP, congrats and enjoy! There is a lot of great advice on here, but you have to choose what to listen too.

I would chime in on my secrets to buying a Pro. But all I'd get is hate mail. :D
