Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
My lowes and HD have the 2x6 $4 cheaper than a 5/4 board. That's for a 16'. WTF

I don't remember the numbers but when I built the 8' wall around my patio, I started pricing 1x6s, was scared off by the price and went with 5/4 because it was cheaper. If 2x6s were cheaper than 5/4, I'd have "upgraded" to that, too!

    Patio.jpg

I did use 2x6 for the "pergola".

Must be in Colorado...I don't know of any other state that requires such nonsense in a residence.

I'd like some input on my spring project. I'm going to build an enclosed porch on top of my existing 10'x20' deck.

    IMG_1583.jpg

The plan it to have the 20' wall be mostly windows, probably 5 of these https://www.homedepot.com/p/America...ange-and-Colonial-Grilles-50-SH-FIN/203157305 and a storm door https://www.homedepot.com/p/Anderse...-Door-with-Nickel-Hardware-E4SN36WH/203207924

The left 10' wall will have another storm door, and a couple of windows

The right wall will be solid.

The roof will follow the slope of the house roof, and be covered with the same steel roofing. I think I will have to tear into the eves and put that end of the rafters on top of the house wall if I can.

Thinking 2x6 rafters on 16" centers. Was originally thinking 2x6 studs for the walls, but wondering it that will be overkill.

I was thinking of not insulating it, and having the studs exposed on the inside. I can always insulate and finish the inside later if I decide I want that.

Vinyl siding on the outside. Other than the right wall there won't be a ton of siding because most of it will be windows and doors.

Once it's done I'm going to remove the ugly storm door on the house, but leave the main door.

So, what are the big holes/pitfalls in my plan?

sounds like you got a good game plan. Is base on a concrete pad? Or pier and buried concrete? Depends what you are doing 2x4 would work but can get more insulation in a 2x6 wall. Id wire it for electric

What kind of header do you have over the door? It doesn't look like it's very big, probably only double 2x4?

I don't know. I do know the outside walls are framed with 2x6's.

The deck is on deck blocks. https://www.homedepot.com/p/7-3-4-in-x-10-3-4-in-x-10-3-4-in-Concrete-Deck-Block-100002709/204827028
Yea, planning to wire in electric.
If I do insulate it I don't need a ton of insulation. The door on the house will remain, and if weather is at all extreme the proch will be closed off. I don't plan any climate control in that area beyond what it would get from the open door. I mainly just want to make sure it won't collapse under heavy snow, or come apart with strong wind.

How are your building codes there? Some states want concrete buried below frostline or a concrete pad. Not sure if you would need permit.

Worked on downstairs toilet for about the 10th time in 2 weeks. Every time my Mother In Law shows up it starts to "hiss".
