This is probably going to be a stupid question but I know nothing about this so I have to ask. If this is the case with my truck, and something is connected to the original plug somewhere, depending on what is plugged into it, would that cause the issues I'm having? And is there a certain type of tech that I should be looking for that go digging around to see if this is the problem or can any auto tech do this?

Did you pull the fuse and try? I dont think you understand how your radio works with the trucks computer. The radio should not be receiving power.

If you can compare the wiring of you plug to another person's truck, and it looks the same it most likely doesn't have anything connected inline... but if there is a noticeable difference... then there maybe some else installed inline with the factory connector. A tech familiar with these trucks should be able to tell you.

I believe there are some mods out there that attach to the OBD port. Take a look at the back side and see if anything non-OEM-looking that is attached. Some dealers even install some weird shit, like alarms and trackers.

Your radio can say "disconnected" all it wants like mine did. The Maestro doesnt disconnect and it still wont flash if the radio is getting power. Pull the fuse and suddenly it works like magic.

I saw this and wanted to try to get this figured as I don't want to waste more of the tuner's time or mine if I bought it back to Toyota. They do have a comfy waiting area, but don't want to spend more time at the dealership than I have to if I can help it.

Its radio 01 or Radio 02 fuse, whichever is closest to the fender side of the fuse box. Invest in yourself and learn to work on things.

I'm slowly learning how to do things myself. How I spend my free time is very valuable to me as I work a lot however so if I can pay a shop to get things like this straightened out I'd rather do that.

Lol I am, but the ECU update wasn't supposed to be this difficult in my defense!

I’m fairly certain there’s something jacked up with the wiring harness @Aqualoon from whoever did the original head unit install (this isn’t how it looks from the factory). When I tuned it originally, it couldn’t communicate with the ecu then randomly decided to work after I connected with techstream.

not sure if there’s the original odb2 stuffed up in the dash somewhere but I couldn’t find it without pulling the dash apart.

I have my truck in for an oil change and tire rotation. But when I get it back I'll take a picture and see what y'all say.

When I had the new head unit installed, the shop who did it (they do boat and car audio/video) said that it was a complete mess and looked like dealership work.

    I can confirm that lol

what you probably need to do is drop the lower dash panel and see what all is buried back there. Hopefully the original harness is back there and they didn’t chop up the OEM one.

I can confirm. The back side if mine looks nothing like that. Some fuckery going on for sure.

Note that the split loom is my own fuckery with a big shout out to @daveeasa . :D

Reminds me of what it looks like under the dash of early '80's German cars!

    Primed for initiating leakage.

I was surprised to see that myself since I have flush cutters and a zip tie gun.
