    Sweet sweet build.
I’ll see it one day. Still have your laptop with the tech stream need to get it down there or TW express it to ya.

Thanks. They are mainly for heat protection for the shit that is around them. The up-pipe is real close to the passenger head and frame rail. There are brake lines running on the frame rail there and also power steering lines and electrical. Down pipe has less shit around it and more space but the blanket covers the part right of the back of the turbo, where it's hottest. So that will help control under hood temps and keep things safe around it as well. Turbo will also be getting a blanket, once I have the turbo. I prefer the blankets over actual header wrap. They fit looser and are thicker so should offer more heat protection for other components and be better at resisting trapped moisture, hopefully.

Maybe once I have it running and the break-in done with final tuning, I can do a shake down run up to Flag.

Fun things to come. Engine build is happening next week sometime, which means I will hopefully be installing it the following weekend!

More little things in preparation for the motor.

New power steering lines installed. Went with the IAG braided pressure line and a new return line from Rock Auto that I put more of the DEI heat sleeve on, over the heat shield that came with it. Just to match the sleeves on the AOS.

Then I drilled the hole for the AEM sensor for speed density in one of the lower IC pipes and welded that up. Several hours later, after I finished welding, I realized I put the bung into the wrong pipe. Oops! New bung ordered so I'll have to redo that once I have it. I'll have to plug this one up.

Then it was on to mocking up the Cobb air box and cutting the hole for the IC pipe to pass thru.

Finally, I trimmed the intake scoop that bolts to the radiator shroud and plastic welded a plate to it to try and direct the airflow from that into the air box.

    Excitement is building now!

I light of the recent announcement by Cobb, my tuning is switching gears and will be done with Haltech now.

Picked up a new battery for the car. Might as well since new engine.

Received and yet to be installed the new shift boot, ebrake boot and console lid cover from Zealous Interiors.

And finally, we have a long block! I forgot to get a pic of the full long block but will have that later. Spent the day with the tuner and we got the heads installed. Monday, they will get the measurements for the required cam buckets.

    ARP 625+ head studs.

    Ready for some head.

Passenger side done and torqued down.

Quick peak under the dress and the internals of the V3 long rod block from Outfront.

I missed it but, how big is the new turbo and what are your power goals?

    Tuning for 91-93 only?

Turbo is a Blouch Dominator 3.5 XT-R ball bearing turbo. Good for up to 580-600hp. We are shooting for 400+ wheel hp on 91 pump gas. E85 is not part of the picture since it is way too scarce around these parts and in SoCal. But it will be flex fuel capable.

What's the news/deal with the Cobb to Haltech switch? Emissions software compliance?

Cobb announced Thursday? that they are discontinuing the ability to remove CELs for removed emissions equipment on all cars using their tuner. This has a huge effect on all Subie and Nissan owners that tune their cars with Cobb. Enough CELs and it will put certain cars into limp mode. The biggest change is that they are no longer supporting flex fuel tuning. So to run E85, you will have to run 2 different maps, one for pump gas and one for E85. You won't be able to tune for flex fuel which makes map changes for the higher ethanol content on the fly.

I'm running a cat but most other emissions items on the engine are removed with this build so running a Cobb would require spending more money and changing everything to get things working right. The Haltech resolves all those issues and gives me more options down the road if I want to change things up. Like adding E85 into the mix.

At least you've got a work around after all the time and resources invested into this project.

Popped the Haltech in. Super easy to install since it's plug and play. Obviously it still needs the tune for the car but it's ready to go. There's a perfect opening under the dash that you can tuck the ECU into, just adding some filler foam to the back of it. No need to remove carpet or anything to dig it out now for tuning, just slide it out and it rests on the passenger floor.
