anyone with a reg cab flipped their driveshaft to stop any driveline vibes/noises? if you could, let me know how long ago you did it and if it broke anything else, or fixed it completely.

heard of it sure. He means flipping it end for end.
You can also rotate the flange 90 degrees at 1 end. I've had that fix a shakey pilot shaft. But never had the opportunity to flip one end for end.

I don't understand why it would make a difference which end is where, probably just how much you feel it.
If its the same type of end on each side, not always the case, you could try it. Or just get your drive shaft balanced or replaced, or re-manufactured.

what do you mean rotate the flange 90 degrees at one end?

i have a reg cab with the one piece driveshaft, got the rear leaf tsb done, and now i got a vibe at like 60mph and some noises when i let off the gas at highway speeds. i heard that flipping it fixes those symptoms..

I agree with island808, it shouldn't make a difference if your drive shaft was properly balanced.

What the rear leaf TSB did was change the angle of the driveshaft which is causing vibrations. The regular cab is not listed for the rear leaf TSB so you must have complained enough. I think your fix is to correct the angle.

Well this explains why I'm having some vibrations at about 60 mph.

    Interesting....

I know in the jeep world - moving your U-joints into another position would often cause vibrations. Not exactly sure why, but perhaps they get seated (settled) after a period of time. If you take the driveshaft off at the U-joint, you have to mark everything to make sure you get it back on in the exact orientation.

If you flip it (at the ujoints)....I'd highly recommend getting a new set of u-joints on both ends.

I'll have to agree with Pugga...if the driveshaft is balanced properly, it shouldn't matter which end is which. Interesting concept....(flipping it)

How long have you had your TSB?? If its fairly new?....I'd put 200lbs in the bed for about a month to force the springs to settle. Then - after they settle, your vibrations might go away.

THe angle shouldn't be causing vibration either. It didn't change the angle that much. Do people have to put angle dealies on their aal trucks? I doubt it.

Curious how you figured out it was the drive shaft.

I don't know what kind of ends the toyota drive shaft has on it.. but if its a flange like with 4 bolts.. rotate it so bolt 0 degrees goes in what used to be bolt 90 degree's hole.

Some people have to use axle shims...yes.

The Regular cab trucks weren't included as getting the TSB springs. Depending on what springs he actually got, will depend on how much actual lift he got.

If he got the same TSB springs as I have...4.0L access cab that resulted in 1" of lift AFTER settling..... You put those same springs on a 2.7L reg cab and he'll probably end up with 2" of lift after settling. On a regular cab, that could cause vibrations.

Don't use those u joints to cure a high speed vibration -- they'll make it worse. Read Tom Woods' entire description to understand why.

Yea I have the 4x4. And I think BC if you change the position of the slip yoke it can line itself up better.

Bringing this thread back to life:

I know my driveshaft on my reg cab is causing the grinding noise when I let off the gas while going over 60 mph or so. I am thinking about flipping it (front to back and back to front) to eliminate this because that seems to fix the problem from what I understand.

My question is for people who have done this: Has it caused any other problems at all?

    Thanks :)

Any time I've experienced this, it has been due to dry needle bearings and wear on the u-joint. Install a new set of u-joints. Try greasing the ones you have now, that may help.

Yours sounds like dry u-joints. First check to see if there is any play in the joints, f there is then replace the joints and re-grease them every service interval (like stated in the manual).

U joints are fine. Regreased every few thousand miles also. It has been doing it every since I lifted it at 400 miles on the odo.

After flipping the driveshaft (reg cab only) to eliminate the problem mentioned above, has anyone had any problems? Thanks.
