Well fellers, the Past Tech with Rusty "2022 Save the Iron" campaign started off with a $75 top tier fill up and a 100 mile rip into central Pa.

Saw a bunch of these. The are huge in person and make a soft wuf, wuf noise as they turn.



Also saw this sad old International Loadstar that hasn't moved in a very long time.
This one was built between 1962 - 68(ish), the early models had the parking light below the headlight.








Also spotted this bit of Americana in a little burg.



And managed to get stuck behind this oversize load for many miles -- first and second gear slow.

Past Tech with Rusty, page 2.

The item of my desire naturally is another 2 cylinder Wisconsin engine, 1967 I believe. This one is a rare one (rare just means uncommon, not expensive) in that it has a three speed with reverse (Borg Warner) transmission and a vehicle application clutch. I have another one that took a 700 mile round trip to Ohio to fetch.

Most Wisconsin engines come with a Rockford or Twin Disk snap action clutch, it is in or out. Meant for driving pumps, balers, conveyors, etc.

The axle is from an electric EZ-Go golf cart probably and it is junk but was a throw in.




As usual, my elderly helper the 1946 forklift was called into service -- this unit weighs about 300 pounds. It was an @$$ kicker to get in the truck.



Harbor Freight wheelie bases work great for these!



Electric start, the loop above the starter holds the ignition coil.
That bell housing and transmission is cast iron. The transmission was used in Jeeps back in the day.



This one has a battery ignition (uses points and a distributor) most Wisconsins have a magneto.
The generator is gear driven off the timing gears, the distributor drives off the back of the generator. The little box is the regulator.

Notice the distributor cap has four poles and wires, there is a proper 2 cylinder cap made, if folks don't have one handy they throw a 4 cylinder cap on, don't know why they had extra wires on it.

Also occasionally found is a distributor with no generator - I don't have one of those, yet...
That Rube Goldberg linkage is for the throttle.



This accessory pulley is unusual, I have seen them home made in the past but this one looks quite professional, if it was OEM it would be painted orange. You could drive an alternator or hydraulic pump nicely.



There you have it fellers, another one saved from the scrapper and ensconced in the magic shrinking garage -- my private mission: To preserve the quality of mundane items that was commonplace in the past.

Beautiful day for a road trip too.

Footnote: Mrs Green didn't ask what I did today either...
