    Originally a thread called Street-legal, air-conditioned, 3-cylinder JDM fun!...

    I have seen Honda Beats for sale in the US, and I even virtually drove one in a video game over 20 years ago (It was either Gran Turismo or Need for Speed; I had the original PlayStation back in the day, and I believe the game was a rental from Blockbuster, but I don't remember which game it was), but I'd never seen one in person until last night!

    I was incredibly excited when this 1991 Honda Beat showed up at a car meet. These were obviously never sold here for a multitude of reasons, primarily crash testing and emissions, but thanks to the 25-year loophole it is now legal to import them!

    I worked on a yellow one last year at work, zebra striped interior and all. Its like a baby NSX.

    In some ways yes; Would you say it handles like an NSX? This one does have air-conditioning and power windows, but it's certainly not as luxurious as an NSX!

    The owner and his girlfriend were in a rush to check out the show (I couldn't blame them), and I wasn't able to ask all the questions I wanted to ask; The car clearly has speakers in the doors, but I cannot see a radio; I have a feeling that it was located underneath the HVAC controls and deleted to make way for whatever that gauge is in its place...

    Ive worked on 2 NSXs, both 1991s. One was immaculate, the other was not, haha.

    No the beat is like a smart car mixed with a miata. Its a honda so its functions perfectly. Its peppy enough to keep up and fun to wind that little 3 cyl out.

    The NSX was a cathardic experience. DOHC v6 true VTEC about 12 inches from the back of your head. Better than sex.
