Not hard at all. It was already a smokin' deal and I would have bought it at their listed price anyways, I was surprised I got them lower. Granted, this was right before the scamdemic...might be harder to talk them down now. But there are dealerships out there with trucks sitting on the lot...I was out in Huntsville, AL, for work last month and a dealer there had 4 new Tundras and close to a dozen Tacomas sitting out front.

How quick do you need a new car? If you can wait a few months, find a stealership that does msrp. If you need one right now 2k isn't too bad

FWIW, I bought my certified, one owner 2019 TRD Sport DCSB V6, 4x4, 6MT with 9k miles in September for ~$36k -- which was steep but still less than new. While bored the other day, I did a search and most everything I saw fitting that same criteria was $40k+, 7 months later.

You never know in this market. Like another poster said, it could be a $3k market adjustment later this year. Depends on how bad you need to replace your current vehicle. I was in a situation, DDing my "nice weather only" 4th gen Camaro. Glad I didn't wait because I would've been paying more now.

Lol . No way. When I got my new ‘21 , I went to 4 places before I found a dealer not charging over MSRP, or any of those ridiculous “protection package” add ons for like $7000..

Its easy to fold just to get it over with, and Im sure you are excited about a new Tacoma and want the process to be over asap.

Problem is in a few months things wont be exciting anymore and now you will be saddled with the fact you paid a lot more money then you had to.

If you are loaded and $ doesn’t matter , then by all means go for it!

I think you meant sellers market.......

Demand may drop as recession looms inflation continues, feds raise rates and gas costs stay high or rise.

Needing a truck is one thing, wanting is another. More truck owners want one than need one.

BTW. Affordability should never be determined by the ability to make payments.

PS, being debt free is a great position at all times, but especially in hard times.

I was a chiseler my entire life. As I get older I cant be bothered. If you have the cake and want the truck no need to ask out here. Buy it and enjoy it.

Markups in my neck of the woods are $4k and dealers are tossing extra options on top of the markup to further push the price up. So in this market $2k isn't bad at all. If it's the truck you want, with no other extra $$$ in fees and options, I'd be inclined to pull the trigger.

While any markup sucks $2k on a $40k truck is only 5%. In a tight market that isn't too crazy.

Like others have said, I'd still shop around. But at the same time I'd probably bite the bullet.

    Good luck....

Might be worth calling neighboring states to check. Flying out and driving back might still be cheaper than $2k. And you might get a nice road trip out of it.

Quit waffling. An Airforce guy is going to snag it before you decide.

So does Toyota charge the dealer a "market adjustment"? The dealers are selling less cars so are making less profit so they have to screw everyone that walks through the door then they screw you some more when you come back for service.
At least they don't hide if it doesn't bother you to pay the 2k then pay it and be done with it. Three years ago you were getting screwed when you paid MSRP, two years ago you had to settle paying MSRP now we're willing to pay 5,10,15K over MSRP.

It’s not getting better and most likely will get worse. New vehicles are hard to come by. You may be able to negotiate purchasing a lift kit installed by the dealer if he takes off the market adjustment.
