Brakes

Hey guys, I have a 2007 Access Cab, 4.0 v6, 4x4. I only have 12k miles on it. My brakes are vibrating while stopping slowly. But when I floor the brakes its smooth as cutting butter. Also it will pull to one side or the other while braking. Any sugestions? Or should I just bring it in.

Also one more thing. I know there have been many post about how sensitive the tacomas are on tire balaning and alignment. I have had to bring my truck back to the dealer ship three times now, since have my SPRING TSB to redo the alignment and tire balance. What if anything do you think I should do. Thanks

thanks for the information guys, i am going to make an appointment next week to get my truck in. I just really don't trust the dealership closest to me.

 

What did the TSB have to do with tire ballance?
It's obvious that their ft. end man is having issues with aligning your truck.

 

First, if you are physically able, always rotate your tires yourself, and DO NOT overtighten the lugs. Use the lug wrench that came with the vehicle, and just get them tight, but don't stand on the lug wrench. Make sure you apply the approximate same tightness to all of them. This will save you a bunch in rotor replacement/turning costs. I have found that almost all auto/tire places will overtighten the lug nuts with their impact/air wrenches, which will essentially warp the rotors. Some even claim it "torque" them, but from what I've seen, I'm not sure they even do that properly - eg. if they overtightened it in the first place they need to re-loosen it to apply the appropriate torque. I haven't had any rotor problems since I started rotating my own.

Since it sounds like they may already have screwed yours up (did they remove the wheels when doing the TSB ?), you may need to have them replace your brakes/rotors, then MAKE SURE they torque the lugs properly, or maybe even better, bring it home and retorque the lugs yourself after they get done.

 

Hey thanks for you reply. They threw in a free rotation when I got my TSB done, so yes they did removed the tires. I have only had this problem since they did that. Should I invest in a torque wrench with a display to show me the correct torque? I will be bringing my truck in next week, i have a feeling they are going to fight me and I will need to call customer care.

 

When I went in last week to have my RLS TSB done, they said my truck was elegible for a brake TSB which was new pads and turned rotors.

 

Thats good to hear, I did not realize there was a brake TSB.

 

Well, I don't have a torque wrench, I just do it by feel. But if you are one of those guys who thinks they need to stand on the lug wrench when tightening, then by all means you need a torque wrench !
