Extended Brake Lines when Lifting Truck

I don’t know if this belongs in the suspension forum, but I think it’s relevant. I’m lifting my 3rd gen with a 6/5 setting Bilstein 6112’s and RTX Leaf Pack in the rear w 5160’s.

My question is: Will I require extended brake lines? The Lift is going to be approx 2.5”

Rear definitely recommended but some of that depends on how the truck is driven.

 

They'll most likely be tight but not tearing out, I have never liked it and now I'm upgrading to the Yotamafia lines.

 

Any bolt in rear shock typically maxes out before the brake lines start to pinch.

 

Correct but its definitely doing a little stretch and thats not going to extend its lifespan.

 

What I do if people don't have extended lines, is bend the tabs that the soft/hardline connection meet up to so those connections actually face themselves a little more. Easily gains another ~1-2" of brake line travel.

 

5160 kit for brake line spacer is provided with drivers side shock. I have Deaver 402 stg 1 which provids a 2 inch lift. Works as designed by Bilstein.

 

I did wheelers +2” lines in the rear, going to bend the mounts to gain a little more also.

 

Quick question... do aftermarket bumpstops (just installed Timbren) help keep the brake lines from stretching? Got about 3" between the bumpstop and frame now (RXT leaf pack at option 2.)

 

I don't run the Timbren but I would guess that they do limit travel a bit and would help prevent the stretch of the stock lines.

 

Bumpstops deal with compression (stopping up travel so the shocks are not the up limit {stops}). The extended brake lines deal with down travel.

So stopping the up travel on the passenger side would cause less down travel on the driver side... correct?

 

A stock truck has a real world ~8” of travel. You can be at the upper limit on one side and lower limit on the other. People remove their sway bars to get a little more flex out of the IFS. Regardless you don’t want the shocks being the hard limit on the up or down stroke.

 

As far as the front some say longer lines aren't needed for a 2" lift. Just checked mine (extended coilovers set at 2" lift height) at full droop with the wheels at full lock and the oem lines are stretched to the max.... just something to check out.
