I know the answer is probably here if I dig but I've read complaints about rust proliferating under the black tar frame coating. I had the white wax and plugs. They actually called it wax on the invoice. This was 2020

anyone know the difference? I never paid much attention at the time. Dealership told me the frame was good at inspection, then I took it back a few days later and they kept it for 2 days and when I got it back, the invoice said "wax application" and there was white goop hardened drips oozing out everywhere

It's called cavity wax. It's made to repel water inside areas like truck frames.

Looks like good stuff. Never seen this offered at rustproofing shops. Is it common?

just hard coating and drip sprays offered in shops here that I’ve seen.

I just had mine done last week, the white wax was applied. My question is how long before this stuff dries? it has been 4 days and is still wet to the touch.

A good body shop will have SEM (or similar) cavity wax of you want to get it done.

Has yours dried? I dropped my truck off this morning for them to inspect a pop in the front end and repair a tire. They notified me my truck was eligible for the CRC application that you got. If yours has dried, I will be much more likely to NOT get it done. If it stays fluid, then it will keep creeping into the cracks and crevices. If it dries, it would seem salt and water would eventually work its way into any gaps in the coating.

I have Krown applied every other year, its a oil film spray based in Canada. I am on the fence on just sticking with Krown, or having Toyota do their CRC application AND keeping up with my Krown applications.

Anyone have some thoughts on this? Apparently the campaign ends this month, so if I'm going to get it done, it needs to be soon.

Toyota has failed in rust prevention. That’s why there was a lawsuit and a settlement. That cavity wax is better than nothing. The next step is maintaining the exterior and interior of the frame. I’m happy with woolwax.

I had mine done last year. It stayed soft for a while and is more firm in some places now. I removed all the plugs they put on the frame. After an aggressive undercarriage wash with my pressure washer, I found those plugs, especially the big boxed section plugs, held a ton of water in. I mean there was standing water just behind the plug, which had a foam seal to the bottom inside of the frame.

Thanks for the info. I was tempted to ask them to just put the plugs in, but had considered that may hold stuff IN more than they keep out. Makes sense...

I think I'll leave her as is. A little voice is telling me I should have it done just so they warrant anything that may happen in the future. If I don't have it done and it rusts down the line, I'm sure I'll get the "Told you so!" line and you're on your own since I didnt take their "Fix".
