That’s fine if you’re okay with it, not good advice though for others

Umm....yeah, I bought my truck last month. I thought my post was clear that for me the adjustment was acceptable.

Show up in uniform and tell them that you have been saving up the whole time while away overseas. Tell them a story or two, like you can barely even afford it and you were looking forward to finally being back home and buying one to just get out and enjoy life.

I bet you anything any decent soul will do the best they can to get you an additional couple of bucks off or throw something in.

I say go chase it man! Life is short!!!

I second this. Any issues you have bring it up and apply for a disability rating for it. Even getting 0% service connected is good as the VA will treat the problem in the future. You start receiving disability pay based on your rating, which is a great help. I believe at 20% you can be covered by the VA for medical problems.

As for the truck. $2k in this market is not bad, especially if it's exactly what you want. When I picked up my Taco the other day (got mine at MSRP fortunately, had to wait 7 months though lol), the dealer was saying that it's getting harder to get new Tacomas as Russia manufacturers the chips for them. I want to say he was specifically referring to manual transmissions, but not 100%.

Like I mentioned I waited 7 months to get exactly what I want and saved the money during that time to pay in cash. It is difficult to predict the future, but it's not looking too bright. With inflation, war in Ukraine affecting the world, etc. it may be a while before prices come into reasonable ranges again. Inventory of Tacomas may dry up. Over a long term, $2k really isn't much, especially if you really want it.

On top of this, I believe the 4th gen will be out soon. So if you love the look of the 3rd gen, your window of opportunity may be shrinking unless you buy used. The color you want may not be available in the 4th gen and typically the first production years have kinks that need to be ironed out.

OP in the unlikely event you’re deployed there’s a Toyota program for deployed military members you should take advantage of. If not there’s still a $500 rebate.

Getting taken is irksome. I’m currently drawing the line at paying more than MSRP for anything. A bit pathetic but gotta draw the line someplace.

What if there was no suggested MSRP? Is it a price you would pay for a vehicle you really want if that were the case?

    From one squid to another…

This is the last thing you need if your intention is to separate from the military. Finding a job, going to school, and settling down someplace should be your priority. I seen so many sailors get so upside down in life due to high vehicle payments they couldn’t afford. Then some smartass like myself would pop off “Don’t get pissed…just reenlist!” I went in with no debt and came out the same way.

Market adjustment is such a scam. Walk away. Would you pay a market adjustment on anything else?

My friend just paid a 2k markup for a new car but it was kind of a wash as his trade in was valued at 4k more than the lease buyout so in the end he's 2k ahead.

I think if you want it and you're 70 get it! You'll be ahead anyway with the trade in.

BTW I'd say the same if you were 45 (my age) you only live once. Enjoy it!

I guess it depends on where you live - in the Bay Area this has been the norm for years. IMO if I really wanted it, $2k is not that bad - I'm a "life is short person" and if it wasn't causing me any undue financial burden (meaning you can afford it), I would do it. You can always ask them to throw in some adders (bed mat, mud flaps, etc. whatever).

I would not do it, but your not me.

you have to ask yourself if you can handle the extra cost and is it worth it to you.
If you walk away from a deal like this and feel you got screwed, then you will always feel you go screwed, if your happy then go for it.

About how it was for me. March 2020 I found a certified "used" 2019 TRD Offroad V6 4×4 with under 4k miles and got them down to just over $30k. Wasn't planning on buying as soon as I did but I couldn't pass that up.

The department of Labor just adjusted annual inflation for the CPI to 8.5% which is a 4 decade high. And that is if you believe inflation was a mere 8.5% - that is just for the consumer price index which isn't reflective of things like cars and homes which tend to skew higher.

2K ain't jack to get what you want in life. Eventually they are going to have to adjust MSRP for the Tacomas (probably with the next model year but it could happen before that) and when MSRP is adjusted to be account for all this inflation I suspect it'll be more than 2K for the average Tacoma. I suspect the folks who refuse to pay a dealer markup on "moral grounds" will be paying a significantly higher MSRP if they wait indefinitely.

Until the Federal Reserve allows a recession to take hold to deflate the "Everything Bubble" they pumped up in the wake of the so-called Housing Crisis a little over a decade ago, my personal philosophy is to "use it or lose it" when it comes to the US dollar.

You may want to jump on it things aren't going to get better. Now that Toyota dealers know this it'll get worse.

Toyota is exactly where Toyota wants be. Toyota is neither ahead or behind. That does not only apply to where Toyota is at with the EV market.

Agree 100% let's not forget you can still get interest rates in the 2's wait a year you'll be in the 6's. On a 40k loan that's over $60 a month more X 60 $3600. Many people think this 2% rate is normal boy are they in for a rude awakening. Expect rates in the 8's soon and that if you have 780+ score. It's expected redesign on Tacoma will be increase of 12% base MSRP.

2k is nothing. Try having Toyota tell you the Corolla GR will have a $20k markup. Or a Bronco with a $40k markup.
