Incredible work! I need to figure out a new step system. Think I need to upgrade the step stool.

Keep an eye out for a clapped out aluminum folding stair set on offerup - then just go to the hardware store and pick up new nuts/bolts/washers and rebuild it for $30 or so. The one I'm using was so corroded that I had to knock out the bolts and drill out the corrosion in the holes. Picked it up for $40 if memory serves...then you can mount the stairs to the top of the tailgate.

    Thanks! Will do.

Quick research has those de-icer cables at 100watts for 20ft or 5watts per foot. Gonna need some more batteries.

The smallest one is 6x12 at 90 watts. For 8hrs you're looking at 60ah. It probably distributes the heat better than the cable and you may not need it a full 8hrs. That's 30% of my 200ah battery. Curious if the wattage changes for the lower temp one we would need. Don't think I want my floor at 450 unless I'm cooking on it.

Yeah, I'm thinking that the Dickensen, MaxxFan, and secondary fan above the furnace is enough - we've had some very comfortable snow camping with the current setup and we haven't even taken the Dickensen off of low yet, so there is plenty of heat left in that little sucker.

I am thinking about using some rigid foam in the flanks against the lower sides of the kimbo to help if I can find some decent R-value.

Ok, winter is almost done...in most places. Has anyone pulled their mattress out to see how well the ventilation mat works?

Thinking of doing this the next decent day, I know it'll be quite the wrestling match so I gotta start lifting some weights to prepare...

Maybe just go up with it and place some blocks down. Should be able to get a good look underneath. Otherwise...

Going to try this I think. It can double as a bench and fairly cheap compared to other multi step ladders, $50. Would have to get lucky with the stairs you have, but will keep a look out. Got this idea from the GFC crew.

I think my truck is high enough that I could place it perpendicular which could work well with the side steps.

Yeah, those benches are very stable - mother-in-law uses one for painting and loves it. As with anything, where to store it...I like the folding stairs because they compress down nicely. They can be had pretty cheap if you keep an eye out for the clapped out ones - the new ones with a grab handle and glowing steps and adjustable feet are pretty high digit though.

Tryin to figure out how to mount and store those too. I would want to keep the tailgate as a porch/shelf. I'm guessing I would have to take the stairs on and off and put them away somewhere if they were attached to the tailgate...

I also googled "scissor stairs." Maybe easier to mount but would still have to remove while driving potentially. The stairs would be sweet though.

I have them attached below the door on my Northstar camper, and remove them each time. Picture here.
