I've been running the assegai up front and the agressor out back and it's been a good setup that's been plenty fast for me.
Agressor doesn't do as well as say a dissector would in more tacky/sloppy stuff and the super duper dry, but is great for like 80% of the riding I do.

I need a stem pad like that for my bike when the little one is on the Mac Ride. She likes goofing off an putting her face right down by the bars and I'm always worried she'll get a face full of stem.

For me it's the pretty big gap between the center and side knobs. If you push a bit on descents with somewhat flat corners instead of cornering slow/flatter/on good berms there is a noticeable gray area. I can stand this a bit more in the rear, but obviously you're also losing braking traction for the extra rolling speed compared to something like a DHR II.

Same here. I've never found real difference in any of the grippier front tires in terms of rolling speed. So little weight is there, and the power is all put down on the rear. I mean, sure, if we're talking Rekons vs. Assegai it's noticeable. But I'm for sure not running any low-grip front tire on ANY bike. I've had enough of front tire wash-outs.
As for rear tires, I know I'm not riding what most people need. I flat anything less than DD, so I take the hit in speed so I don't have to deal with flats. And shit, I'm not trying to get any KOMs going up. For long rides, like 30 mi and 3K+, I start to notice lighter tires. But those don't happen that often.

**The new Conti tire range looks interesting too. Might have to try them out. Especially the Xynotal for the rear in the summer.
Hey, it was a killer powder day for April!

I ran a assegai and aggressor setup and I enjoyed it. Currently running assegai/Hans damf. Hans is better than the aggressor but I am running it with a tannus vs no tannus with dd casing on the aggressor.

Lots of people talk about the gap on the DHF too but it’s never been an issue for me. Assume the Dissector would be similar up front just less total traction. The few rides I have on the Dissector in the rear I did notice the gap there and had a couple rear washouts that weren’t an issue with the DHR2.

Yeah for me it’s not about KOMs and I don’t even mind on the big climbs then big downs. It’s on the rolling trails where there are lots changes from high to low speed and constantly having to accelerate and maintain momentum. That’s where I think the faster setup could really shine. But I am still concerned about losing too much traction up front for descents.

Don't have a ton of experience with different tires but personally, I'd rather suffer a little rolling resistance and be ready to party when things get rowdy.

    DHF is a solid front

I've had a few Dissectors.. overall was a good rear for the most part minus the braking traction compared to DHR2
Minion SS was a good time outback fast rolling. surprisingly grippy climbing cornering knobs eventually catch you but there was quite a few 2 wheel drifts.
    DHR2

    So far my favorite combo.

    Assegai front 2.5
    DHRII rear 2.4

    Call it a day

So many damn tire options. Even if you just stick with Maxxis you've got like 20+ options :bananadead:

So true about options. I also think that the DHF/DHR2 combo is super solid and never a bad choice. I’m looking to add some variety and versatility I guess. Changing tires is pretty easy so it’s not like I’m planning to go Dissector/Rekon and leave it for a park day or something.

Want to play a game of increasing transportation costs?

Feel free to guess ($ per MT) to load one of these babies in Africa and discharge in China. Let's say 180,000 MT bulk material

Hm. I know what the Drewery Index says generally, but not a /MT figure, esp for that route specifically.

yeah bulk cargoes have their own indices
Maritime is one of the last true free markets (Pricing literally dictated by # ships in service). At the peak of last year's mania we were booking capesize vessels ~$30/MT * 180k MT = $5m per vessel. We booked a dozen of those last year because they were cheaper...than panamaxes, the workhorse vessels, which carry 60, 000 MT and they peaked around $50/MT. We still booked about 65 of those last year which was a slight decrease

At the mercy of shipowners making up for deficits over the past decade

Very interesting, and you can do this from Tennessee? I always assumed this task would be executed from a tower overlooking a port…reality is rarely as much fun as my imagination.
