Not quite sure what you're asking. By "cast looking deal" are you talking about the aluminum filter housing? If so, its to replace the factory plastic one.

Sorry... Now I'm confused too. I understand the funnel, the drain valve, and the filter wrench. What "plastic one?"

Hahaha. The aluminum filter housing is to replace the plastic filter housing. There is not a plastic filter housing in the picture I posted.

I think it started on the 3rd gens, but there oil filter housing is plastic since they use those paper filters instead of the hard metal filter style that the 2nd gens use.

The dam is usually locked, but that is the easier way.

A bit south of Mesquite campground is a nice crossing that works fine, it's at that corral on horseshoe rd.

Oh man, I had a difficult time updating our Rand McNally. All the trips with notes about good potty spots (wife and 2 daughters), good playground equipment (daughters are now in and graduated from college) notes about good coffee shops all over the intermountain west. My wife did a mistake/not mistake and ordered the Large Print version. It's kinda nice.

    Changing subjects,

Thanks for all the comments - on the Gaia recommendations, I'll probably trial a subscription. What are y'all running the app on? A phone? I like my iPad because of the screen size, but as I found out it doesn't have the GPS listening chip, so will need to pair with the inReach or iPhone. Not a problem, just possibly a different experience for my use case.

AZ Hunt maps, kinda like the Delorme Gazette map books? Haven't ever big game hunted, always waterfowl growing up in the midwest, so no familiarity with that.

Have backpacked all over the Weminuche Wilderness, and yes, always paper and compass, so familiar there, but on a foot based adventure it's a little easier to carry the necessary 7.5 minute quads.

Yeah.. same dumb filter housing style on my wife's car. Really sucks because It's lowered on coilovers. I got so irritated and made a mess the first time.

Highlighted routes and a hand written legend!

If we ever link up, I'll have to show you my Garmin/Hunt Maps so you get an idea. I just like that it's all loaded on a card. No service needed for satellite imagery. Only need to download if going out of state (or slap in that states hunt map card).

It is now - just looked that up. I think the last time my dad and I were through Escalante was on a Sunday, and Mimi's Bakery was the only thing open. Plus chocolate chip cookies.

I'd flip those top plates so the traction surface is facing up...

I agree! If you want more traction on the filler plate flip the divots up!
