Shop Time w/T.W. Friends

Over the years I taught dozens of workers to use a tape measure, sad part is some of them were long time employees.

 

I've had to walk one of our HVAC guys (he was in his 60's) through plans on numerous occasions following ductwork. Surprised me every single time that he could be in the industry that long and not know how.

 

Damn right! I wore shorts and even turned on the central A/C (that somehow miraculously works!).

 

We surpassed the predicted 85 degrees and hit 91 today. No storms yet but wind is obnoxious!

I had my math teacher drill the 25.4 conversion into our heads. Math for the machine trades. I think there was one or two other conversion factors as well. Maybe meters to inches? I use them so infrequently that I just look it up. Or go to machinist handbook.

 

So they're all sitting out in the middle of nowhere in West TX? Hmmm....

 

Alright, give me some opinions on converting this from fluorescent to led. LED strip light?

 

Hey @six5crèéd when you swapped to a booster seat for Sadie, does it anchor in any way? Or does the booster sit loose and you use the seat belt only?

 

I wonder what would be a good battery powered option would be for mine. The work bench where I have one mounted requires an extension cord. Can't have a long term extension cord because it could burst into flames....

I’d like to ditch the ballast altogether, and just have a plug in. Or run off an 18V Ryobi battery?

The Circline lamps are still commonly available too, for about 1/3 the cost of this ^^^.

Vintage Triple Circline

 

My magnifier doesn't get used that much, usually to remove the smallest of metal slivers. I also am required to wear my hard hat in all work areas of the plant and my hard hat always has a head lamp. But the head lamp is far from ideal working through the magnifier.

 

This is what I was thinking, just wanted a second opinion!

 

I have spent a lot of time making complicated work arounds for simple problems, as I have gotten older time trumps money.
Hard to beat plug and play.

 

We’ve got a newer/smaller version of this at work. This one is older and the magnifier is so much clearer/better.

 

Applied for a Machine Maintenance position at my company. More money, more hands on.
