The ones in the plain silver wrapper were also "real" Pop Tarts, just different than the ones from Sam's. The plain silver wrapper was pictured in an earlier post...

I think it was Robert Heinland who wrote a famous science fiction story about a future where nobody could do math without a computer. Worse than that, nobody believed that it was possible.

The hero of the story was a young engineer who had dug up an ancient book and figured out how to do mathematics with a pencil.

    Mmmmm…Berries!
No wonder they are so good!

It’s all the apples and pears. Plus there’s some dried strawberries and something called “natural wild berry flavor.”

Who do you think they send out into the wild to collect that natural wild berry flavor? Is it just random wild berries or is it the same berries every time?

Their list of ingredients is a legal fiction.

That natural Wild berry flavor is made in a laboratory. No one is going out into the wild to search for natural berries. Except for bears and raccoons.

The name of this artificial flavor is “wild berry flavor” and that’s what they put on the box. It may be from all natural ingredients, but none of them were harvested in the wild.

Frosted cereals were how cereal companies got you to pay the same price per pound for sugar as for cereal.

The flour normally costs about 50% more than sugar per ton.

Everybody knew this when they started out doing it, but they were allowed to create this ripoff because they put vitamins in the cereal. Vitamins tasted horrible and nobody would eat them unless you hid the taste under cereal and sugar.

By the way, as kids we ate oatmeal or some other hot cereal which we prepared for ourselves after about the age of 10, and it was always doused with butter or margarine and Aunt Jemima syrup.

Or sugar or Karo or molasses or whatever we could find in the kitchen. It was usually 6:30 in the morning and we were starving because the winters were cold in Minnesota and we woke up hungry.

I think our favorite was Maypo cereal which had some artificial maple flavoring in it. And then we would put Log Cabin maple syrup on it, if we had some. Of course even back then it wasn’t 100% maple syrup, but only like 5% and then later 2%.

I could recite all my friends phone numbers from grammar they high school right now.

Of course, those numbers don’t reach the same party anymore, but I still know them.

Now, I am an idiot savant to technology. Just press an icon....

    Nope. It's what I do

Paradoxical..teachers told us we'd never be able to use a calculator in everyday life, yet so many cannot function without one..and not even all that well with.

My wife has a master's from Cal State in education. She taught primary school for 32 years. If she wasn't so damn cute I'd have left long ago.

She can't do the simplest algebra or geometry. She can't do long division! She can't remember multiplication tables. Percentages and averages mean nothing to her.

But because some scoundrels have declared her highly educated, she thinks she can make intelligent decisions on complicated matters, based on her feelings.

They are simply desperate for teachers here, have been for a long time, and only getting worse. I have the living proof.
