    I'd imagine a slaughterhouse is much more pleasant than, say, a dead deer on a hot day...

    Then I'd imagine you've never been in a slaughterhouse.

    Imagine being the guy that has to fix things. Things that do nothing but haul large amounts of "less than desirable" cuts, shall we say, away. Things that move "liquid fertilizer" from point A to point B and might clog on occasion; point B being a large holding tank.

    I'm a slaughterhouse maintenance supervisor.

    Among other things. As a supervisor I deal with the entire range of the plant. Our boning room of course is squeaky clean and smells as such. That's where all the stuff that's literally heading out to your table (after a bit further processing) is going through. Antimicrobials are sprayed on everything all day, it's refrigerated, etc.

    The kill side of the plant can be a bit rougher, air conditioned but not refrigerated. Over there you get such fun things like busted stomachs, popped abscesses, etc. Of course cleaning stomachs for tripe is literally washing shit out of them, but that's beside the point.

    The most fun can be found in the basement where as @98tacoma27 pointed out, we deal with everything that isn't ever bound for anything but a gigantic pressure cooker to make jello etc. Intestines, stomachs, lungs, honesty very little goes to waste. The problem is that the stuff that does go to waste tends to smell badly, and the basement doesn't really get cleaned particularly well. Also handled down there are waste water (blood, shit, etc) and literal shit, which is pumped to a holding tank via hydraulic ramveyors.

    I am not squeamish and I don't barf just from unpleasant smells; I think might be able to handle it! However, being able to handle something isn't the same as wanting to do something. Also, do you ever wear a respirator to somewhat stave off the smell? I can tell you from experience that a fart can get through a standard 3M painting respirator...

    :anonymous::D

    So I can't imagine that it would be particularly effective against the various goings on in a slaughterhouse...

    The A/C system in my truck had to be disassembled during the frame replacement, and after the major work involved in replacing the evap core in 2018, I was worried about potential issues with the A/C; The dealer covers all parts and labor for a year after the frame replacement, and I was told that of the A/C wasn't blowing cold come warm season it would be covered. It was like 81 degrees and a bit humid today, and the A/C is definitely working perfectly!

    I've been using the portable A/C in my bedroom for a few consecutive days now, but I do believe this is the first time we've used the central A/C; Upstairs thermostat needs batteries, and the clocks on both are both behind...
