Honestly I don't remember but it could have been on YouTube. The story was that Ford was upset with the games dealers were playing with the consumers. Whether its true or not remains to be seen. But if dealer lots are going to be predominately empty due to manufactures cut-backs, while they insist on selling above MSRP, as a manufacture I would question the necessity of their "services".

    I saw the same article...

Apparently the rumor was Ford is going try to go direct-to-consumer for their EV line. If I remember correctly it will be a separate business from their traditional auto brand selling EV's direct to consumer.

They are stuck to the traditional dealer-model for gas cars. But not for future EV sales.

    Or something along those lines....

Our exact experience last year with what was on the lots, anything new was already sold, used "mudders" were selling for more than new. Also markup over MSRP was 5,000.
Finally found a dealer with no mark up and we put our name on one that was being shipped in that suited our needs.

Is there any lawmaker that campaigned on introducing a bill and voting yay for getting rid of dealership requirement? I'm not interested in politics but just to stick it to the dealerships I'd vote for them

All manufacturers need to do is start checking with the owners on the price they paid. Sell over the MSRP, cut all popular models to that dealer and drop them down on the ''who gets what when'' list. If they stuck with that for even a year or two, dealers would lose enough customers that they would likely change their tune. Dealers that stuck with the MSRP [and didn't tack on dealer added crap with ridiculous prices] would get more popular models and move higher on the list for vehicles.

I have a new dealer next to my subdivision, which I bought my 2018 4R (opening day!) and 2019 Tacoma from. On occasion I walk through their lot and it's mostly used cars and boring. When they were loaded with new cars, it just attracted me. When I bought my Tacoma, they had a dozen to pick from, and all at under MSRP.

Yup. Can’t sell manufacturer direct to consumer in Ct either. Laws prohibit this. Im sure you can guess who spends big money making sure this law stays ..

This is actually a great law when you think about it.

Dealerships were started so consumers would get a vehicle at a competitive price. If there are 20 Toyota dealerships in a 50 mile radius, they all want to beat the other guy, so they'll lower prices, give a better interest rate and offer every rebate possible. The government was worried that if manufacturers sold directly to the consumer, they would potentially price gouge them or implement tough rules for warranty work.

That was in the past and for decades and decades it worked, and worked well. We're in strange times now where dealerships are screwing consumers to the floor boards and we have almost no legal recourse and just have to take it.

Limiting sales is NEVER good for consumers. I don't think most consumers would buy directly from a manufacturer... who wants to buy something they can't drive first? Very few people. And, consumers these are days want everything (and will pay more for to get it) in 17 seconds.

It is going to eventually come down to same thing as always... time preference (which is what interest rates are).... there will be a small on site inventory for those who want it now and will pay a premium and then there will be wait lists for people like me that don't mind waiting, but want a better deal. I pay cash for everything, but I want a deal. I don't need to turn in my cars so, again, I want a better deal since I don't need all that trade in haggle annoyance.

Ummm, you took the quote that said literally this "Can’t sell manufacturer direct to consumer in Ct either. Laws prohibit this..."

And YOU said this "This is actually a great law when you think about it."

Sounds like you were in agreement with the great law of Ct that limits sales. I suppose that is where I got it.

I think new car inventories will eventually rise to ~50-75% of pre-pandemic levels. Why? Most people of moderate means (or lower) are delaying new car purchases owing to the inflated prices and lack of inventory. Getting inventories up (and prices slightly down) will bring the average-means buyer back into the market and that should be a win-win.

Lol you guys are leading with your hearts not your minds.
Do you live in a house before buying it?
Do you wash clothes in a washer before buying it?
They give you a demo to drive, you fit and like it or not. The old dealer model is dead in my opinion. Tesla model will become the norm.
    MSRP will become norm.

Except vehicles are selling in record numbers man. Wishes are just that... wishes.
As long as the manufacturer is selling more vehicles at MSRP the model will never change.

Dealers in the northeast are changing it up a bit they get a variety of models for the dealership to own and you can test drive it and check it out and figure out what features you want and they’ll look for that allocation. It’s the future
