It’s Monday a week post PR. VO2 Max and Tempo cycles are done. Volume cycles start now for ultra season. As starts keto cycle 1 to get a much wanted diet brake from eating for high intensity.

Excited yall. This is the fun part of training for me.

My work schedule just changed to 10:30-7p so I get more time pre-work for trail runs which is nice.

It is lightweight, sets of 7 at 240 for time. Easing into it, don’t want to tear a bicep. I haven’t trained events for more than a year so taking it easy these first few weeks.

I feel that. Shit, I’ve talked to Travis about it before. Like I’m a welder/supervisor. I’m on my tools and off when the work picks up. But I can’t work if I break something or get in a wheelchair or anything major. Pretty nerve wrecking that a hobby could cost your income. Which is why I’m trying hard to find a new career to goto school for so I can work even if I do get hurt.

I am definitely going to go with more than the bare minimum $5000 deductible health insurance this next open enrollment period. Just getting strong enough where I could hurt myself. My job has a shitty version of light duty.
You would probably have to do something drastic like tear both quad tendons to not be able to do anything at all for work. If you’re a supervisor, the company has a little more invested.. doubt you would get shitcanned

Carry the appropriate insurance with the appropriate coverages. Health, Auto, Home, Life, Umbrella Liability and short/long term disability if it applies.

You never know when something may take you away from the ability to work, even if it's an office/intellectual job, or take you off this earth completely.

I deal with serious injuries everyday that impact people's lives both short and long term. Unfortunately horror stories do happen.

That last sentence is a scary truth. Sometimes it’s not even anything you could control or do about it.
The older I get the more I worry my luck is gonna run out one day.

I don't think you could tell me a scenario I haven't actually seen happen before. Right now I'm a serious injury auto claims adjuster. So serious injury, higher dollar value claims that usually involve lawyers.

I've seen it all. In fact I've seen some things that make me start acting like Aunt Josephine off Series of Unfortunate Events. Recently got a claim in where a police chase was happening on a busy road, perp ran the stop light, ran into another vehicle. A piece of one of the vehicles comes flying off and hits a baby stroller and Dad's leg. Baby is fine but holly shit. Now I feel like you can't even take your baby for a walk without being paranoid of some crazy shit happening. Dad has serious leg laceration though and had to have it surgically cleaned and closed.

Most of it will be outside of your control and that's really scary. I do not run on the road because I just don't ever want to be that person hit by a car. I almost got tagged by a Prius last year (pretty sure it was @ThunderCookies). I had to physically jump off the road.

But make sure you do what you can with insurance, living below your means, and saving for a rainy day. Then just go have fun because everything will kill you so pick something epic.

If you go with any kind of deductible plan, definitely dump some pretax dollars into a FSA. My job does the high deductible but they also throw money into that for you, I throw in another 2600 a year as well.

THIS. Never know..that's why you insure.

Yikes. So very true re the uncertainty. I've heard a few crazy things in my years of medical/dental insurance as well.

Speaking of serious adult shit who else here feels like they need a part time job just to keep up their food intake now a days?

My grocery bill has officially made it to the insanity category.
