Cracking / clunk sound under truck when turning wheel?

Hey y’all.

So, weirdest thing. After the trucks sat a while (few hours) I notice that I usually hear a “clunk” sound that appears to be directly under the truck, maybe toward my side when I turn the wheel. I only notice this when the trucks stationary, not moving.

I took it to a shop because of the noise.. they said everything looks good… with the exception of the right control arm. I figured hey, maybe that’ll fix it! Got the truck back and of course.. the issue remains.

Tomorrow I’ll pay more attention to if it is happening turning both directions. Or whether or not it happens in gear, moving forward or backwards.

Any ideas?

It could be a few things

Steering rack bushings
Control arm bushings
Intermediate shaft

This is where you need a buddy that you can trust.
Crawl under there and take a look while your buddy turns the wheel.

 

I’ll make sure to get that list to them! You’d think…. They’d find that stuff . They are really honest humble dudes. They have excellent “country home town” service. They never try to sell me anything, but man… I’ll pay! Just fix it lol.

 

I not saying you can’t trust the shop.
I’m saying to trust that your buddy doesn’t run over you while you are under the truck.
