I bet the breeder primarily fed crickets too. Roaches are expensive. I'd focus on crickets for now, unless he eats roaches good. I understand why roaches are preferred versus crickets, but you'll get there once he is acclimated and eating good. Also, they tend to not eat much fruits/veggies till they're older and done growing. They need that protein early on, so don't worry if he don't eat much of that.
