UCA recommendation?

at the 8:30 mark in this video he states what we have been saying. SPC will give the best Cab Mount clearance while achieving the correct alignment.
JBA's are solid UCA's but will give too much CASTER. And will more than likely need a CMC.

Are you saying these new ones don’t need greasing? I have the old round tube style and wish they had zercs on those knuckles because it utilizes a bushing. I didn’t know they changed it on the new style

 

It should if your wheels are 8"?
Remember that every set up is a bit different. Which wheels? Tires? and how the alignment shop sets your Caster and Camber makes a difference. The best you can do is try and get Maximum clearance from your Cab mount while achieving proper alignment. (This will minimize the amount of cutting you need to do.)

Yes. I'm not sure if it's now a sealed unit, but my new UCA can be fully torqued down and they still move freely. Unlike the older version that you described which the bushings would wear out over time.
As SPC come across design issues they make the necessary changes to improve their product. I've owned SPC's since they first started making these for the 2nd gen Tacoma's. Their first run at UCA for the Taco; I was able to identify design issues, notify them, and they immediately made the corrections to their UCAs. Great company! Hopefully they will keep that great business model.

265?? You may not need much of a lift, you can probably just stick with the stock UCA's until you actually need to change them. Put the extra money towards the BEST mod of all! paying off your truck.

Yup, they are sealed and can be cranked and still move which is nice. I have 45k of hard abuse on mine with no problems. Ball joints on the other hand, Im on my 4th set but Im hard on stuff so its expected. Feel like every truck I work on has squeaky or worn uniballs, so either way you're doomed.

 

Is the ball joints on the SPC something that needs to be changed a lot? (New to a lot of this)

 

On a normal daily driven/normal wheeling rig they are fine for probably 20-30k miles, but I basically try to break my truck so I go through them about every 10k-12k miles.

 

Is it an expensive replacement?

 

And which ones do you get for the spc

 

On Amazon they are around $115-$150 for a replacement set depending on the day. I get their "newer updated" balljoints. Basically same cost to replace Uniballs, so it doesnt bother me as I would probably be doing them at the same intervals as I live in wet ass Pnw and drive up to the ski resorts a handful amount of times in the winter so everything gets blasted with sand.

 

i replaced my first set at 10k for $90 (bought straight from SPC). How to know if they are worn out is done by moving the joint stem by hand. If it is easy, then they are shot.

Changing them out is easy but you want to make sure to mark where the ball joint sits in the control arm to have as little defiance from your alignment as possible.
