But if they would've ranked the Tacoma as #1, it'd be the Bible, right...? o_O

For what its worth, I didn't even start out as a Toyota guy. I liked American cars cause I'm American (shocking I know), but I'm a mechanic and I realized that most of the rusted out crap boxes I worked on were not things like Subaru's, Toyotas and Hondas. I know I wanted a truck and so Toyota was the only real option.

Consumer Reports is like that old dude from an 80s band where you hear then name and say "Are they STILL alive??? I thought they died decades ago!".

The mag's been a POS since the early '70s when they did stunts like give the VW Rabbit top billing years in a row by ignoring all CV joint complaints because... "we don't have a category for CV joints".

All I had to know about how the Tacoma would ride before I even test drove it was: 1: It's body-on-frame construction. 2: It's 4WD with a suspension and driveline that, with minor tweaks here and there, is the same as it was when they introduced the 2nd gen in 2005. It vibrates a little: what a shock. ...and 3: It has leaf springs: 4 on each side: It hops around a little on our pot-hole patched ruined roads when it's empty. (except with a bed filled with wet snow then it rides kinda nice IMO)

I knew it was going to ride like a truck and it does....and brings a smile to my face when I drive it.

I will glance at Consumer Reports reliability ratings. As for how it rides, seat position, dash layout, we can decide for ourselves when we test drive.

Yeah...most expensive GoPro mount the average consumer can buy...

And the kicker, I still don't own a GoPro camera to use it with...hahaha.

Hard top camper...many more to add+
My wife is shorter then myself…Both of us have keep re-adjust the seats, mirrors, having electric seats with memory…would be a big improvement…

I didn’t like the factory seat height….once I lifted the seats….a world of difference , my back, the comfort…all improved…even my daughter who has her own Tacoma ,now can see over the driver door mirrors once she lifted her seats...she is short..

The Tacoma is super popular due to its reputation…but it does have its share of flaws, problems, I am still having problem in 4wheel on sharper turns, the 4x4 system still binds..have to reverse to unbind, before I can go forwards, happens way too often…my wife keeps telling me to sell the truck…on the same roads..it NEVER happens to my son’s 2016 Tacoma…or anywhere he goes off roading…he goes worst places then I do too..

because of this binding issue…I am considering selling too..unless I can solve this problem…(Toyota dealers-hopeless). This binding issue is very annoying…after 40 years of owning several 4x4s …this 2019 TRD Tacoma..to me is the worst I ever own…my 1986 Dodge Ram 4x4 ..got to old ..many issues…was the best I ever own…it took me places..where other 4x4 struggled ..Dodge Ram had a straight front axle…hard to beat
    these axle!
    Aloha

I like the idea of using lockers anytime…(Toyota Tacoma is so limited on the rear locker?)

Consumer reports is nothing to put your money in. They’re almost as corrupt as politicians

I have faith in your ability to figure out your problems as best you could.

It seems that after a set amount of time transitioning from an American truck you learned a Japanese engineered truck is not for you or your wife specifically perhaps...

Can I ask, just as a baseline, if this binding occurs off-road on dirt, gravel, etc? How tight are you turning?

I believe Motor Trend awarded the Lucud Air as car of the year. I guesd it's a good car, it looks like a hot pile of garbage to me. Toyota still builds the Corolla, BMW still builds M cars, Audi still has an S line, Hyundai still builds the Elantra. Those all seem like better cars to me. Tesla probably builds a better BEV than the Lucid Air.

Power seats are no good, manual seats work just as good if not better.

I like the Tacoma over the Ranger, but the cab mounts look stronger on the Ranger. Are they better I can't say.

Back in the late 80's my wife and I were just starting our family. I decided back then to get a mini-van...those were hot selling vehicles at the time. The number one van was the Chrysler/Dodge mini-van according to both the hype and by CR. I took a look at a used one...the seats squeaked, the van smelled of moisture, the interior sucked, the headlights had water in them, and it drove like crap. We ended up getting a Ford Aerostar which was built on a Ford Ranger platform. We put 230K miles on that van and it looked almost new inside and out when I sold it. Honestly that was the most enjoyable vehicle I've ever owned. Years later CR admitted that they were "wrong" on the early Chrysler/Dodge mini-vans. Surprise.

    THIS -
I spoke to several mechanics in several towns when I was looking for my truck, during failed pre/purchase inspections; eg persons who would not be getting me as a customer; they asked me if I was looking at any other truck models and I said nope [MT only and I ruled out the Nissan early on]; they all said good b/c the rest are shit but the Toyota will last you forever if you just take care of it.

I kept my last car to just at 200K miles - still kills me I had to sell her.

Even my neighbor who has a Ford [work], Chevy and GMC truck, said 'nice truck, @ 55K it is just broken in and will last forever' - he knows the truth -

You can replace/do something about the seats - I added heated seats and am all good - I knew I would do this before I even bought it.
