I have no idea on how it works... Before the smart keys/FOB came out, thief hot wire then steal vehicle. Just like hackers find a way to get in the computer in other end and after updates, hackers find another way to get in.. you know? Unless hackers get info from insider.. or something like backdoor.

There are smart people out there to find a way to get around these days.

It was in Canada; here you'd be charged with aggravated assault or 2nd degree manslaughter and the "victim" would get counselling.

think if you hold the lock button down for 10 seconds or something it turns off and stops transmitting.

So, seriously, do you have any right to defend yourself in Canada?

man OP, It's sad to read any time someone has something stolen, let alone ones pet vehicle. I can't imagine how upsetting it is. I've only ever had a couple of small things stolen from me, and it bothered me quite a bit.

    Sorry for ya man..

I’d re-think the buck shot as suggested by someone else as well. The potential for collateral damage with buck shot is way too great.

To turn off your key, which I would recommend on the spare as well, press and hold LOCK and then press UNLOCK twice and the red light will flash. The key is off which you can confirm by grabbing the door handle. To wake up the key press any button. I do it every night but this story is disheartening.

It's to bad u can limit the distance these things transmit the signal. If u knew it only went out a 3 ft radius no one would have to worry about key cloning........just all the other stuff to worry about.

I think that was only a problem with others sticking air tags on the vehicles. Not hacking the ones that were already there. Any way my truck is never parked outside its always in the garage and if its not in garage im probably with it or near it lol.

the human body that is mostly water is what stops it dead, and 5.56 bullets have much less overpenetration compared to slower projectiles with more mass.
