I also bought the grill from the TRD lift kit for under $200 .I dont know why people buy the $350-400 version, there is no difference that I could see.

Anyway I dont have any Mad Hornets stuff, I believe I got my garnish from TacoVinyl. It has performed flawlessly for the 11 mos I’ve had it.

That said, Id even buy a quality Amazon garnish if I had to down the road… It’s literally a small piece of plastic and the TSS sensor doesn’t know the difference.

This reminds me...I need to install my Heritage TRD Grill from Empyre!

I'm wondering if the longer wire & screws is for first year TSS Tacomas...I think they may have had two holding clips that just need to be adjusted. The length should be fine once moving the clip on to position...and you may only need to use one of the clips.

I saw a Chloe video where she changed her "grader grill" to the OEM one currently on my Sport...and she had two clips instead of one like I have.

I believe 2018 is the first year. So, you may have the two clips on the TSS Cable routed on the grill.

What determines if you need the longer cable and screws?

There shouldn't be any changes to the length. Chloe went from a "grater" grill to a 2020 & up grill so the TSS Sensor didn't really move to the lower portion like on the vintage grill. I don't see how the length would have been shortened to prevent realignment. How long is the current cable from the TSS to your current garnish?

So do most aftermarket garnishes work with the cheaper OEM grill? It's crazy the OEM garnish makes up such a huge portion of the cost to go 100% OEM

The garnish that comes with the Empyre TRD Grill was $44...I've seen garnishes on Amazon for under $40.

I believe if you pay more that that, you're paying too much.

My total cost from Empyre including garnish was under $190 including shipping.

I bought the Raptor lights separately off a member here for less than $40.

If the Empyre garnish works on the OEM grill, the total would be about $170 if you use FREESHIP from from a dealership. I'm just wondering if the two are actually compatible

Nothing extra is needed. Watch a few videos so you know what to expect. Just take your time and have plenty of room to work on the grill , there are lots of little parts to keep organized as you do the swap.

Looks like you got the same rubber cover over the TSS module like Chloe's video explains.

She took it off but I don't remember if she re-installed it because she mentioned some kind of recall about a water leak on the TSS.

Another question being asked about the vintage grill is the OEM Garnish. I've seen it advertised for some crazy dollar amount but have read that lower priced ones can be sourced and work fine. Slight differences in the mounting points but members have not had issues with compatibility or securing it.

Here's a great comparison video of the various vintage grills including the OEM--also talks about the garnish area.

Sorry for rookie question...Is "garnish" just a plastic cover that fits on the grill?
