Do you find the Gen3 Tacoma interior a bit small/crowded?

Well it is a midsize "truck". It's basically a corolla with 4x4

My vote: get a sequoia. No regrets. I had a 2nd gen Tundra prior. Fifth gen 4runner too. And a second gen Tacoma. I’ve tried a lot of things.

You are doing it wrong if you are taking road trips in boats...

What I know though... maybe you are doing it right!

    Oh look, another mod....
Get the Sienna. It's a great people mover. Tons of space and even gets pretty good gas mileage.

Only reason I considered a small truck was because my kid has moved out, no longer needed the full size Crew Cab Ram.

So I had 2018 4Runner offroad premium. It was comfy when the in laws came to town. The gas mileage goes down dramatically with any mods. I did tall skinny tires to help. Barely did anything. They are stupid expensive. I got lucky and got one brand new off the truck for 36500. Sold it for the same about a year later. Still seeing 2018 selling for more all these years later.

Also had a 2016 Tundra. Gas mileage was meh. It was too long for city life, had to do some dozen point turns in tiny drive thrus. I sold it for a decent price a few months into the pandemic. I worked from home and got something different.

My sequoia gets a solid 15mpg all the time even with lots of mountain elevations. And it has all the space. Same engine as the second gen tundra obviously.

What does your significant other drive? Knowing the full situation helps with making vehicle decisions.

When I was married my ex had a 3rd gen 4Runner. We drove that pretty much everywhere with my daughter for 10 years. But I took the double cab tacoma I had lots of places too. And the Mustang. I just traded a 5th gen 4Runner for my Tacoma and I really have to admit it's a much nicer vehicle. Better interior quality, lots more torque, the rear seat reclines. But it sucked for dump runs and hauling building materials. Moving anything tall required a trailer... And I had mine on 285's so it got like 17mpg tops. Overall much happier back in a double cab. And now that I'm divorced usually it's the now teenager in the passenger seat and the dog in the back seat. Works fine for me.

    A bunch..and no build thread!
We have a 2022 (5th Gen) 4runner and we use it when we have to haul people or the dogs.

Taco is used for me and the wife, only ever had people in the back a few times.

Doesn’t change the size of the Tacoma but I get what you were saying. When I bought the Tacoma I knew it’s limitations with passengers so I don’t find the interior crowded. I would have bought a Tundra

My 4Runner looked pretty much identical. Same wheels and same color. 2011 Trail. I loved it but it no longer fit my needs. And the gas mileage... Ugh. It was great before I messed with it.

the problem with test drives , is you don’t really get to feel it out in different situations…. Like long drives and such……………

I suppose. I brought the car seat to the dealer and installed it and fixed all the seats how I would normally use it with the car seat. Pretty obvious the backseat doesn’t work all that well for car seats. We made sure the wife’s care would be comfortable with car seats.

If we did another 4Runner, I’d probably get a limited. I’d be less likely to modify it. But the engine would piss me off with mountain elevation. I traded a 2019 Jeep Rubicon for my sequoia.

My mom has a Rav4 and she loves it. I think the 4runner could be a good fit for you if you leave it stock. Or a sequoia if you desire HP and space.
