Just looking for advice. I had the tri fold hard tonneau cover installed on my new 21 taco when I purchased it. I’m now thinking of putting a bed rack on it.. so I was realizing that the bed rails I have on are for the tonneau cover. The dealership never gave me back my original ones and when I called my local dealership they would cost about 650 cdn…. Seems a little ridiculous. Am I unreasonable by asking the dealership I purchased the truck at to either send me new bed rails or give me the money so I can purchase new bed rails? (Live ways away from my original dealership now)

    thanks

Yeah the side rails are the parts that I need. I believe they completely replace the bed rails with a notched bed rail so the originals should have been given back. ( I think)

at the end of the day. I should still be able to put a rack on with no issues I would just rather not have the notches

You have the original rails. They cut yours to install the cover. I took my cover off and just live with the cut ones. Maybe could trade with someone getting a cover.

When I bought my 2017, the OEM tonneau could only be factory installed. This may be different in Canada, or may have changed in the following years. I don't think the notched rails "come" with the tonneau kit, because I don't really think there is a kit... just separate parts you can buy. The dealer likely notched out your rails, or swapped the whole tonneau with the rails from another truck on their lot.

oh weird. For some reason I was under the impression they switch them out. I don’t think the pieces are worth 650. Do you think the notches will prevent me from putting a truck cap or bed rack system?

It's really not even that noticeable, especially if you leave the parts on that the bed cover latches onto. I have a rack on in the summer and the cover on in winter.

No issue. I put a topper on mine. Just looks a bit less nice inside.

I think this is probably what I will do too. I don’t need the rack in the winter time so I’ll probably use it to keep all the snow out

atleast here in the US, you can get the 5ft side rails w/o tonneau for like $120 a side if you order from the dealer online parts store.

I only use my OEM tri-fold soft top cover in the winter to keep the snow out, and remove it in the spring.

idk but i seem to remember that you destroy the bed rails when removing them, bunch of glue helping to hold them down.

Yeah you’re right. My dealership said often when they take them off they break

Hey anyone wanting to trade their cut bed panels for complete send me a DM, we can do an even trade. I have a 2023 that I recently got an OEM bed for but need the cut panels.
