Hubs and I spent $800 this month already.

We previously had $500/mo budget we could stay in easily before. Now it's $625-$650/mo. The $800 freaked me out. I legit keep recounting up my card purchases to make sure someone didn't steal my card number.

We've been able to set budget amounts that are lax enough that we watch the number but could comfortably stay in it. Now I feel like I walk around the store with a calculator all the time. And for me this is just white privilege whining with the worlds tinniest violins playing off in the distance. I am by no means going to starve to death.

I don't know how a lot of people are doing it right now. Especially with kids.

Your grocery bill would make me have a stroke.

I don’t eat red meat any more unless it’s on sale. Costco’s 10 lb bag of frozen chicken is almost $30, 5 years ago it wasn’t much over $16. Jasmine rice, potatoes and oats make up the majority of my carbs. Added fat intake comes from olive oil, if I’m feeling rich, I’ll buy a bag of walnuts or almonds.
I have a kiddo on the way as well, already budgeting in for pampers and baby gear. Going to be joining @weldertaco in the tired dad club

Yep. My main thing is chicken breast/thighs and protein powder. It actually is cheaper these days than buying a shit ton of meats.
I try to have red meat like grass fed ground beef 2-3 times a week ($17 for the 3lb wagyu pieces at Costco)

Chicken is $2-$3/lb which adds up as well.

dude. Formula tho. Gah Lee lol. $50 Barely last a week I swear. Then $50 for diapers. Then $50 for wipes.

everything is expensive and terrifying but you gotta buy it so nothing you can do lol

The wife is planning on doing the tiddie juice thing so we won’t have to worry about formula for a little while. But yeah, this stuff is very expensive.

We wanted to do that but wife’s milk supply never came in strong enough to support the kiddos so we had to supplement pretty heavy

Our food bill is up too. Fortunately she is an amazing bargain shopper and buys all she can at dollar stores etc.

Cat food and litter is getting tough to find believe it or not.

Same for formula. That’s a scary thing to have shortages of. Like not all moms can breast feed and it’s crazy to see how many shortages we are having in frigging 2022.

90% of welders don’t make shit to be honest.

andddd as for steel prices, it’s no different than wood and contractors. the prices scare away some new customers but some don’t care.

The welders I know make bank.

But they run their own business. So thats why.

People I know in any form of building have been swamped with work the last couple years. But I guess if you aren’t on top that doesn’t monetarily benefit you.

I say that as most welders make like $20-$25/hr in a shop as a welder.
Obviously running your own business pays more but not everyone can do that or is capable of it.

Hey thats what I made with 3 degrees up until just this last year. Peanuts seems to be the going rate for a lot of jobs.

I made more as a server than at my last job lol.

It sounds good if you are over 20 years old. But in todays world and prices of everything $20/hr is struggling hard. Lower middle class.
crazy how expensive everything is while wages haven’t kept up at all.

Exactly. Thats why we moved. I wasn’t seeing opportunity for a career making anything worth my time where we were.

I’m not sure how people are doing it right now. Again especially with kids.

I really feel for the people trying to buy a house right now. Especially their first home.

I have 3 of them..and my 4th who passed last summer was on the prescription food for her kidneys.

Exactly, at least in my example it's a pain but I can eventually get hold of the damn stuff and just load up..sometimes I have to drive to the Super Wal-Mart 30 minutes away so not as convenient but always an option.

Some have the option to wait and others don't. I had to get my deck repaired 2 years ago, high price or not, because it was sagging..guy who built it a few years prior took every damn shortcut possible it turns out. Had I waited much longer it might have fallen and perhaps taken out the pool as well.

That's not even enough for a cheap house here. Granted I'm in a costly state but...ridiculous, you can't even afford rent hardly on that.

Here's some perspective. My folks paid about 110K for a new house 2000 square feet in Hingham MA (which is a very expensive town) on an acre in 1982. I paid about double that in 2004 for 1200 square that was 70 something years old in East Bridgewater MA that I've had to gut one room at a time and insulate, new electric, windows, roof....
