I've tried both Aggressor and Rekon but always seem to default back to the classic DHR for rear tires. Dissectors have been my next try in the rear but this truck mod hobby stuff is taking over at the moment.

Action traction is also my goals on all my bikes and the DHRII seems to be a good compromise. I liked the Rekons on my daily driver and for long miles but it wore pretty fast. Aggressors were fine too but some was missing maybe because they were 2.3?DHR! Good old faithful....

 

Yeah DHR2 is super solid no doubt. I have been on DHF/DHR2 the last 4 years and no real complaints other than when I'm chasing dudes who ride more than me and are on race ready XC bikes (including tires) and I start to question my bike related decisions. Part of what led to my decision to go to a low travel 29er over a more big bike rig. Just don't want to totally negate that decision by running what would have been considered a DH only setup not long ago. Also don't want to neuter my fun though so trying to strike a balance. I'll pull the trigger on something here in the next few days and see how it goes.

 

@mtskibum16 I think I have a brand new 2.3 EXO Agressor around somewhere. It was mounted, but never ridden. If you want to try it, it’s yours. Let me know and I’ll try to find it.

Question for the bike gurus in here.

I need to buy new bicycle chain, how do I measure the existing chain to get the correct size?

 

I lay my old one next to the new one and break the excess off, works every time. Just make sure you by the right chain, if you're unsure, snap a pic and we'll help you identify.

I’m out of my element with bikes. I’m learning quite a bit, but I’m old enough and humble enough to ask for help lol.

I’m looking for a 750 watt fat tire ebike for hunting. I’m in SW Florida so my terrain is sand, mud, and tall grass. I’ll also be getting a trailer to pull out game. I need to be 750 watt and under to stay legal on WMA areas.

I’ve looked at QuieCat, Rambo and a few others. Hot damn are they pricy!! I don’t mind spending but I want to be sure I’m getting my moneys worth.

Are those big brand bikes worth the coin? Are there any other brands to consider?
Lastly, would it be worth it to just build my own?

I'm not worried about length so much, I have a chain breaker.

I looked on Amazon and there was about 3 different measurements and I wasn't sure what they meant.

 

Haha, my non-e-bike is $8500. I'd imagine the cheapest option of any of those is sufficient. If you're not using it for anything but point A to point B movement, you don't need a whole lot.

 

I do like Rekons. I wouldnt mind a set of 2.6's on the hardtail.

 

I like my Schwalbe Hans Damf 2.6's that my Polygon came with. I did just buy a Magic Mary for the front through, I felt like I wanted something with a little more bite up there. Rear traction is pretty decent with the Hans.

 

I've gone through two of them, they're ok but not durable at all. I flatted both of them (surprise!), but they also started losing knobs. They also have a weird traction break-off point. They hook up, until they don't, then they break fast and hard. I would only run either of them in dry, as they both pack up quickly.
As mentioned, DHR2 is a solid choice. Also keep in mind, that getting stronger is better than chasing gear to make you faster.

Broke a tooth off my top XO1 derailleur pulley. Anyone run ceramic pulleys? I feel like it's a waste of money for MTB riding. Been having a tough time finding the OEM XO1 pulley wheels!

 

Got all excited where I am in the pack, then I look at the difference between my distance and the top couple guys and feel like I'm just putting around.

 

i haven't heard of different measurements for chains.

my experience is knowing how many gears you have in the back, 7-9, 10, 11, or 12 speed, and get that chain and cut it.

bmx bikes have half links, but i've never really messed with those.

 

Yeah, same here! I have weeks where I’m up there and then someone does like a 10k ft century ride and I’m back to amateur status. It’s fun to watch!

 

Just had a similar conversation with a mechanic buddy. His take, if you almost never see water/mud and are more of an XC type rider then ceramic bearings may be worth it, but ceramic pulleys are more for road bikes. We had a rider shatter her tension pulley on a gravel ride recently.

 

It's a single speed for my kid. I guess I'll just have to figure it out on my own.

 

get a single speed chain then. pretty sure thats what you would need.
