RADAR CHECK: A weakening band of showers is pushing through Southeast Alabama early this morning, and a few stray showers are over the northern and central counties. All of this will be ending soon, and we expect a clearing sky today with sunshine in full force this afternoon. The high today will be in the 69-74 degree range for most communities. The weather will be dry tomorrow; with ample sunshine the high will be close to 80 degrees.

EASTER WEEKEND: A warm front will move into the state from the south, and then become nearly stationary. This will bring wet weather back into the state over the weekend; we expect periods of rain Saturday and Sunday with highs in the 70s both days. It won’t rain all weekend, but if you have something planned outside be ready for off and on rain, along with a rumble of thunder at times.

We note SPC has defined a low end, “marginal risk” of severe thunderstorms for parts of West and South Alabama Saturday… for areas south of a line from Aliceville to Montgomery to Abbeville. A few storms in that part of the state could produce strong, gusty winds.

NEXT WEEK: A few lingering showers are possible Monday, but most places will be dry Tuesday and Wednesday. Then, a cold front will bring showers into the state Wednesday night into Thursday… for now severe storms are not expected. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: For the Alabama “A Day” game in Tuscaloosa Saturday (2:00p CT kickoff)… the sky will be cloudy with periods of rain likely. Temperatures will be in the 70-74 degree range.

The Birmingham Stallions will most the New Jersey Generals Saturday evening at Protective Stadium (6:30p CT kickoff)… expect a cloudy sky with occasional showers; temperatures will fall from near 72 at kickoff, into the upper 60s by the final whistle.

LAST NIGHT’S STORMS: Significant wind damage was reported last night in the Branch Heights section of Eutaw (Greene County), and in the Flatwoods neighborhood of Northport; NWS survey teams will be there today to determine if the damage was due to straight line winds or a brief tornado.

ON THIS DATE IN 1886: The deadliest tornado in Minnesota history razed parts of St. Cloud and Sauk Rapids, leaving 72 dead and 213 injured. 11 members of a wedding party were killed including the bride and groom. The bottom of the Mississippi River was seen during the tornado’s crossing.

ON THIS DATE IN 1935: Black Sunday refers to a particularly severe dust storm that occurred on April 14, 1935, as part of the Dust Bowl. During the afternoon, the residents of the Plains States were forced to take cover as a dust storm, or “black blizzard,” blew through the region. The storm hit the Oklahoma Panhandle and Northwestern Oklahoma first and moved south for the remainder of the day.

ON THIS DATE IN 2019: A total of eleven tornadoes touched down across Alabama on Palm Sunday 2019; they were all short lived and rated either EF-0 or EF-1

I’m going to be building a trailer soon. Does .120 wall seem overkill for it? I’m trying to make it as light and small as I can while fitting my needs.

I'd run that middle tube all the way to the back, that way you can put a deer buggy on it for a cooler or what not if need be :D The only trailers I pull are the Tacoma trailer and a 5x10 utility one, just make sure you will be able to see it. I know seadoo trailers can be narrow(haven't pulled one since I had my TJ), but they are fairly long.

Can't wait to see what you come up with

Yea I’m trying to cut as much weight as possible. I though about making it out of some C channel. It’ll be for camping trips so I won’t need a super heavy duty trailer. I just want to get some weight off the truck. When I towed the uhaul with Anna’s stuff it was about 1,300 pounds loaded down and it did it but I def felt the weight. I’d like it to be about half that if I can.

Those little Harbor Freight trailers they use to make the m416 trailers have fairly thin frames. I'm sure you'll be fine

I actually followed the guy's(jscherb) thread that designed it. He did amazing work on a TJ truck and a LJ-8 one too.

ANOTHER NICE DAY AHEAD: With sunshine in full supply today, look for a high between 77 and 81 degrees this afternoon… the average high in Birmingham on April 15 is 75. Clouds will increase tonight, and showers and storms will likely move into the northwest counties of the state after midnight. SPC has a low end “marginal risk” (level 1/5) of severe thunderstorms defined for Northwest Alabama after midnight… heavier storms could produce some small hail and gusty winds.

EASTER WEEKEND: The weather will be unsettled across Alabama and the Deep South with occasional showers and a few thunderstorms both days. But understand the weekend won’t be a “wash out”, and the sun could peek out at times.

A few strong thunderstorms are possible; SPC has defined a “marginal risk” (level 1/5) over about the southern 2/3 of the state tomorrow (south of a line from Vernon to Birmingham to Ranburne); heavier storms could produce hail and gusty winds. No risk of a tornado.

On Sunday, there is a “slight risk” (level 2/5) defined for Southwest Alabama, and a “marginal risk” (level 1/5) south of a line from Tuscaloosa to Clanton to Ranburne. Same situation; some hail is possible along with gusty winds. Rain amounts over the weekend will be in the 1-2 inch range for most communities.

NEXT WEEK: A stray shower is possible in spots Monday, but the rest of the week is now looking dry as an upper ridge builds across the Deep South. Look for highs in the 68-72 degree range early in the week, followed by low 80s by Friday (April 22). See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: For the Alabama “A Day” game in Tuscaloosa tomorrow (2:00p CT kickoff)… the sky will be mostly cloudy with a few passing showers during the game, and possibly a thunderstorm. Temperatures will be in the low to mid 70s.

The Birmingham Stallions will most the New Jersey Generals tomorrow evening at Protective Stadium (6:30p CT kickoff)… expect a mostly cloudy sky with a few showers; temperatures will fall from near 72 at kickoff, into the upper 60s by the final whistle.

ON THIS DATE IN 2011: The “forgotten” tornado outbreak of April 15, 2011; 45 tornadoes touched down across Alabama. One of the large EF-3 tornadoes to strike Central Alabama on the day created a swath of damage from northeastern Greene County, just southeast of the community of Ralph, to just south of Veterans Memorial Parkway just east of Tuscaloosa in south-central Tuscaloosa County. Winds with this tornado were estimated at 140 MPH, mainly uprooting and snapping trees. A few homes and businesses received damage as the twister moved north of Shelton State Community College and crossed Alabama Highway 69 near Taylorville, and crossing I-20/59 near Alabama Highway 82.

Another large EF-3 tornado struck the Myrtlewood-Pinhook communities (Marengo County) with estimated winds of 150 mph. Several dozen single-family and mobile homes were destroyed or severely damaged. One person was killed when his mobile home was tossed several hundred feet across Alabama Highway 69.

Another EF-3 tornado moved through the Boones Chapel community in northern Autauga County. This twister was the third one to affect the same general area for the day, but this one was a killer. Three people were killed and four were seriously injured as the tornado destroyed the manufactured home they were in. In all, at least 50 homes and one business was either destroyed or significantly damaged.

The event was “forgotten” by many due to what would happen 12 days later, on April 27, 2011, when a generational tornado outbreak would kill 252 people in our state

That's weird! I have been out with them a few times and never got that vibe that they would leave someone stranded. I thought Gideon was kind of a douche when I first met him but he's a good dude, just kind of "intense". They are a fun group to wheel with once you feel everyone out.

Now I will say we did kind of ditch one guy on the trail after he exploded his rear diff but he was a complete asshole and was refusing help anyway. Refused to air down his military tires, floored it everywhere, never listened to spotters, had about 10,000lbs of expo crap on his 2nd gen and wouldn't STFU about Eddy from SOS concepts for some reason. And no it wasn't skip LOL:D

I just didn't like being the only one from my group there at a park where i was more than likely going to break something on the trails we were doing only for them to say your on your own.

I hear ya! The first time I wheeled with them I drove 11hrs to AOP on a whim, I rolled into camp at 9pm, set up my tent and immediately went on a night with them and didn't know wtf is was getting myself into, especially after most of them blew beads and they were seating them with starting fluid LOL!! I remember Gideon giving me a speech about how crawler gears are stupid and just feather the clutch, now they are all installing crawl boxes. Day 2 was the infamous floperator incident.

Im pretty self sufficient and know my truck like the back of my hand so it was a lot of observing, but I could see how it would be an intimidating group for the first time as you pointed out.

I will say Clay is kind of crazy for building that truck right off the bat!! Just remember my tire rule, no patagonias!!

So I got the F150 in January and I don’t know if anyone remembers, but I said something like I’m going to be keeping it stock. Well since then I’ve done tires, door speakers, added a sub, OEM brake controller and now some 5100s and Timbrens. After seeing what the Tacoma has been through, I guess this is still considered keeping it stock as far as my wife is concerned, so I guess I did good

That's called tasteful mods to help with comfort and towing when going on your wheeling trips. Also good AT tires on the tow rig are a must with some parks I've been to when it rains heavy.
