I’m 33….when I do this calc would I exclude the current balance of my retirement? I would basically take all that with me regardless if I stayed in the private sector.

Just use the 40k as a baseline.

How much would the pension pay out and how many years would you have to work to get it?

Non tax-advantaged, $40k a year is more like $28k. $28k @ 9% interest over 30 years is $3.8m if you start from zero today and contribute $2,333 a month.

that 9% will obviously fluctuate a bit, but $3m over 30 years with a $28k a year contribution is not out of line.

    At a paltry 4% gain it's still a million and a half.

For shits and giggles, if you retire at 63 (30 years from now), you can draw down at 4% and get $10k a month without losing your principle. ($3m x .04)/12

Do you expect the .gov to pay you more than $10k a month through retirement?

Again, all VERY rough numbers, and doesn't assume things like tax advantage, inflation, or you making more money or less money over the years, but it's a starting point.

No, but I don't think he wants to hear me say, "don't worry about it, money will be worthless in a few months"

Govt pensions are almost always a lower dollar amount than extra private sector pay invested would provide over the same time period.

Theoretically, the value is in the government guarantee, but even that gives me pause considering how they're handling social security.

The health insurance benefits are top notch though. Thats definitely worth investigating.

When you win the lottery, are you taking the lump sum or annual payouts? That’s the only question that matters here.

Not really. If it's not something you've considered before, then it's certainly not dumb to ask.

Yeah, no. Its good to look at the numbers, but they aren't everything. For the majority of America a gov't pension is the best retirement plan possible because they do *nothing else* to prepare.

If you choose the ostrich-head-in-hole method of retirement planning or simply don't have the smarts to handle money, the pension is the better option. By far.

    Not a dumb question.

But just by your participation here, it's clear you have way more potential than that.

And if he continues to participate here, there's an 85% chance he'll be destitute by the time he's 40 by playing way OTM calls on something that fails as an industry

They lost a lot of money but check out these two statements.

"At December 31, 2021, we had total current assets of $219,741,467 and current liabilities of $70,089,546 resulting in working capital of $149,651,921"

"At December 31, 2020, we had total current assets of $5,342,183 and current liabilities of $11,285,663 resulting in negative working capital of $5,943,480"

From -$6M working capital last year to $150M working capital this year. Growth. Lots of it. Verified by this.

"At December 31, 2021, we had total assets of $405,142,729 and total liabilities of $271,455,687 resulting in stockholders’ equity of $133,687,042"

"At December 31, 2020, we had total assets of $28,028,207 and total liabilities of $14,505,506 resulting in stockholders’ equity of $13,522,701"

That's a 10 fold increase in equity and a 26 fold increase in capital. Yeah, this companies dead in the water.

    Bring on Monday.
