The dealer will be in a rush for you to sign the paperwork.Do not sign anything until AFTER you thoroughly inspect and drive it.Take it up to highway speeds. If you are completely satisfied then finish the transaction.

Yes, understood. That will be an adjustment for sure. I was pulling a 40' fifth wheel, back and forth over the Cascades and I know that there will be times when I miss the capabilities. At the same time, I'm happy to no longer be married to a Powerstroke. I really needed a dually for what we were doing and a well equipped Diesel is generally not available on a lot, and an obscene amount of money to order a new one. Not out of the RV game forever, but when I get back in I am looking at the Super C's on a freightliner chassis. Those new Polaris Rangers are nice rides. I've been waffling back and forth on between ordering a new RZR or General, but I want ride command and the wait is stupid long. UTV's are road legal (with proper equipment in my area) so I have an actual road use street plate, and I am fortunate that I can sneak onto the few backroads where I need to make some short runs where they are not and get access to hundreds of miles of places to ride. The county guys are pretty tolerant and overlook mature adults who are not being dumb (and one suggested that a agricultural orange diamond will get you left alone entirely). We no longer go to the sand much, as that scene has gotten crazy, but I will likely have to get a whip mount for the Tacoma and at least go play a bit at some point

In other news... I am going to need a tutorial on how to properly use the multi-quote function. Apologizing upfront for my single replies.

In my mind I'm about 19, but my body tells me otherwise. Childhood buddy was over the other day, looked at a photograph on the wall and mentioned that my Dad looked good and asked how he was doing.... Dad is in his 80s and it was a recent photo.... of me.

Got it. Now I will work on inserting my responses within a quote. Which I assume is just using the brackets and quote function to isolate my words. I'm not dumb... just lazy.

It stopped working from my iphone but another option is to highlight the portion of a post you want to quote, right click, then choose either single or multi quote, proceed as desired.

Aftermarket. Toyota doesn't make a long range car starter, but they had them do the install.

I can go play indoor hockey and start the Taco from inside the dressing room. Come out to a) a nice a warm Tacoma, or b) a stolen Tacoma.. :)

Hey Rusty! Toyota makes a real handy fold in bumper step that my old broken ass uses! I forget how much it cost but is think it was $250. Congrats and have fun with your new Taco!

The buying process was probably one of the quickest and least offensive experiences I've had in 40 years of buying cars. The car had a sold sign in it when I arrived. I parked my truck next to it and was greeted by my salesman. We did the obligatory handshake and introduction. He handed me a key and said he was finalizing another deal and asked if we wanted to wait inside, go for a drive, or just look the truck over. It had 4 miles on it and a full tank of fuel. I drove the truck a few miles down the road to a softball complex outside of town and got out and went over it at my leisure. Nothing specific or odd jumped out, it drove as I expected and seemed to have plenty of pep. Other than not being familiar with everything it was comfortable to drive.

As suggested, I popped the hood and checked to fluids, all was good, the roof was free of dents..

I returned to the dealership and we were invited inside. I had previously given them copies of my license, the title of my trade and insurance card. Short of a single sided Toyota form that was prefilled out for me all I had to do was sign at the bottom. We waited for about fifteen minutes while they looked over my trade and when they were done the sales manager came over and introduced himself. They did not change their offer, that we had discussed over the phone. I was comfortable with the number, but of course I had to see if I could get a bit more. I had a carmax value with a seven day offer that was about 1200$ more but it was not worth taking it to them as I would lose the sales tax offset. He was polite, but it was a firm no, the offer was the offer.

Shortly after I was introduced to the finance manager, everything was in order, there were no surprise charges or fees. All of the "paperwork" was signed electronically on a tablet...which was new to me. Covid killed the long form and the dot matrix printer.... at least something good came of the damn pandemic.

He offered me the 9 tiered warranty options with stupid price tags, I declined and there wasn't even an attempt to sell me. He showed me the product, I said no thanks and that was the end of it. We finalized everything. I wrote a check for the balance and was handed my copies of the paperwork.

The whole process was quick and easy. The verbal deal we made over the phone was honored 100% without a single deviation.

The salesman asked if I had any questions, he paired my phone for me, went over some of the basics of the infotainment system, asked me to give him good scores on the survey when it arrived and sent us on our way.

We drove home, parked the truck as we had another commitment this afternoon. It's dark and I didn't get the chance to take any pictures but I will get some posted tomorrow. My initial impression of the 50 mile drive home is great and I think the Tacoma will be a good fit. My 18 year old daughter has some idea that she is going to use it next week.... sorry kiddo.. not happening.

Thanks again for all the welcomes and patience in answering my questions... I'm sure I will have lots more down the road.

Do keep an eye on the "Deals and Coupons" section. Sometimes there's sales on the Toyota parts department stuff. Similarly to your Amazon experience, it'll save you a few bucks. I imagine Memorial Day or the Fourth of July will be a good time to have a list of wants.

One thing that if you can have the dealership install it for the price at msrp is the tailgate lock if you want to secure the bed with a hard cover/tonneau. Laying on the ground putting the metal ties was kind of a PITA and took me longer than everyone else claimed it took them lol. Either way, its been nice to not have to walk up to the tailgate every time to lock up when I'm done

OP, there used to be a known issue with hood vibrations. Mine is affected. If that piques your interest I would look under the hood and see if the hood skin is properly attached via their factory glue to all the supports.

fwiw, My hood vibrates at freeway speeds, doesn’t bother me much but it bothers some and it’s a hell of a rabbit hole fo fix

My teenager is off to college in the fall.....looking forward to an empty house and some adult time. Hope everything still works. :bananadance::fingerscrossed:

I will keep my eyes on the section. I can already see that I will want a step. I like the look of the predator step or something similar. I have read some complaints about it's durability in off-road situations, but I'm not sure that would be an issue for me. I'm open to functional alternatives that I don't have to step over. Need to research more before I make a decision.

Regarding the tailgate lock, I am assuming your referring to one that ties into the remote lock/unlock on the key. Mine does have a manual lock. I watched a video on the step install, looks pretty basic and I have access to a lift.

I didn't have the opportunity today to get much over 70mph. I didn't notice anything going on with the hood but I will read up on it an pay attention to it. Thanks for the heads up.

We have seen Silver Tacomas but we have not seen Rusty’s Silver Tacoma!

They are special and each one is unique.

    :)

Not sure how tall you are but the predator step works well for both my 5’1 wife with a bad back and has worked great for my folks who are now in their early 70’s.
