    Yes
but you will pay for those years of your factory warranty. I waited till my warranty ran out and she told me the 7 year is actually 4 year warranty because they go back to when you bought the truck. I didn't have money to throw away so I did not bite on the extended warranty.

My truck breaks down I'll go to the bank and borrow the money to get it fixed.

If buying a extended warranty helps you to sleep better at night. Buy it.

The head radio unit in our prius died out of warranty...it was insanely priced from toyota to replace. I bought a used unit off ebay for less then $300, and replaced it myself. Been working better than new. I swear the original had a glitch from the beginning, just happened so infrequent. Its about the only big expense i worry on this tacoma going tapioca.

    Still thinking about it.

Pressure. They are expected to bring a certain amount of profit in with every sale, and a “bad month” or two will cost them their job at some dealerships.

Finance department is a huge profit center for a dealership. Combine that with the fact that they are primarily on commission for the most part and customers are more educated than in the past, there is a ton of pressure to close those deals. It's a sought after position over the lot chaser or the sales manager so there is always somebody nipping at their heels looking to get out of the weather in a comfy air conditioned office.

I've got a lot of experience in sales, I trained sales teams and existed for 25 years selling medical devices on straight commission... there is "overcoming objections" and "offering solutions" but when your product is hidden behind a shell game it can make for a frustrating day after a few "no thanks" in a row. Desperation does bad things to normally nice guys.

McDonalds is paying kids 16-18$ an hour here and have staffing shortages... I might go flip burgers myself..

For the most part I enjoyed sales but it is not for someone who can't budget and makes poor financial decisions.

I picked up my new truck yesterday. The buying process was a great experience, one of the best I have ever had. All of the negotiations were done over the phone. The finance guy showed me the extended warranty options, I declined and not another thing was said. No hard sell, no guilt trip. A handshake and a thanks for your business and I was in and out. The whole process took just a bit over an hour from the time I arrived, test drove and inspected the truck, and then finalized the paperwork on my trade and new truck.

I started another thread here, and will get some pictures posted soon.

Thanks to all for the welcome.

I was introduced to this finance guy at the dealership that did extended warranties only after i gave my check to this other person there for the truck total. I did my purchased over the phone also, plus the use of a fax. This finance guy took me over to his office, and started his big speech how all the problems that could happen, would be covered up to 10 years, or 100k miles down the road. I could buy into shorter term warranties if i wanted. Kept telling him i wasn't interested, but he seemed to be getting more pissed every time i told him that....thought he was going to blow a gasket at one point. I was glad to get out of there, and on the road.

I can second purchasing through Troy. Was very easy to deal with and good prices.

Bought the truck second hand with 13k miles so decided to buy one.

I am not opposed to a factory extended warranty, in this case because it was a cash deal there really were not any shells to hide the product under. Normally these are presented to you as a bundle with an increased monthly payment. The finance guy shows you a tiered product with your monthly payment and it's easy for some to get lost in the math. The majority of the premium bundle shown were things that my insurance already covers (glass, lost keys, paint and cloth treatments) basically token cracker jack prizes to make the actual warranty coverage appear to be more valuable than it really is.

With respect to the guy, he knew he was getting a no, and he took it like a champ. Not even a "are you sure".

I appreciate the reference and will get some online quotes and mull it over a bit. My only real worries are the electronics.

Well i'd wish the guy i dealt with was more like that, instead sternly saying ''don't go crying to toyota after your sensors in your transmission fail out of warranty''....you've been warned.

I never get extended warranties for anything, ever. It's better to save on your own for any needed repairs. Just put the money aside that you would have spent on the extended warranty.

I tend to agree, for most buyers they don't make sense.

Imo, they would make more sense if you kept your truck over 10 years.

I have been buying new cars since 1986. I have never bought an extended warranty or regretted not getting one.
While the car is under warranty you should be able to tell if it is going to be problematic or not. Besides that, if you're having trouble, you're going to get rid of it before you ever use the warranty.
They are a way for the dealerships to fatten their profits on the car you are buying.
I bought my fair share of junk new cars and gotten rid of them before the warranties expired. My favorite was my 04 S10 blowing the engine at 22000 miles or the 05 Rendezvous blowing a head gasket just before the warranty expired. There was also the 89 Lebaron that spent most of the time in the shop until I got rid of it. Those problems went away when I switched to Toyota and Mazda.

losing the mindset that one has to buy everything they want immediately and on credit was the biggest hurdle the young guys had.

does not need to be catastrophic. example, lot of chatter on a leaking timing chain cover which requires pulling the engine to replace.
