Do you find the Gen3 Tacoma interior a bit small/crowded?

I'm good in mine. Wife and kid fit fine. We knew what we were buying and our expectations are in line with that.

yeah it is, but the wild thing is the modern tacoma is about the same size as the late 90/early 2000s tundra.

Sienna for kids. Occasionally, we load everyone into the Tacoma for short trips, but it’s usually just me in there. Much easier, more comfortable and cheaper to drive the Sienna for road trips.

The Sienna looks to be Toyota's best built vehicle followed by the Highlander, Venza, Camry, Avalon, and Corolla. I think all six of those are on par with each other as build and design quality is concerned. Followed by the New Tundra, current Sequioa, 4Runner, Tacoma, and Yaris. Yaris might actually be built and engineered better than the Tacoma.

I like older Toyotas better, but the newer generations display the theme of better engineering. Which gives the impression of better build quality. It's debatable that newer is better, with the quality of new parts in question.

    Anyway

If Toyota wanted to build a vehicle to compete against the Hyundai Santa Cruz, and even the Honda Ridgeline. The Sienna would be the vehicle to base that design upon.

Aren't 3rd gen and 2nd gen interior dimensions exactly the same?

There isn't a lot of available interior space to be found on the Tacoma. For a truck that is not designed for maximum interior space, I have often questioned why the Double Cab is the most popular cab configuration of the Tacoma.

Neither one of our daughters plans on giving birth...it would definitely not allow them to do the things they are able to do now.

But they do have 4-legged family members!

I went to a 4-door DCSB Sport because of my history of owning sedans and SUVs. Our kids are married adults now so this truck is for me.

I wouldn't know, this is my first tacoma, and with a power seat. I'm 5'10'' and the power seat adjusted low enough for my liking. I think i'll go slightly lower if needed. From everything i've heard people that have owned past tacoma's, the seating has always been strange.

I would think the popularity of 4dr SUVs is why 4dr pick ups are popular. The regular cab Tacoma is big enough for me. Toyota builds what sells, that why they build more DCSBs.

I can't figure out why 4dr SUVs are popular when people don't need the seating capacity or interior room.

Full size BOF SUVs are still somewhat popular, and 4dr CUVs have become more popular than BOF.

Is it the abundant supply of CUVs and 4dr trucks driving the demand for those vehicles?

Yes, but it best serves my purposes. If you need a truck and want to family road trip go Tundy IMGOBO.

I'm impressed with my wifes, and it's a hybrid. o_O
Seriously though, it has close to the interior space of Sienna, without being a minivan.

+1 on the soccer mom van. It drives good and has plenty room. The 4Runner good enough for 4. The Taco is my toy and daily driver.

Sequoia is big and a gas hog but fits 8 no problem

soccer mom van is ppl mover and good gas mileage

I don’t know if newer is better either, however some of the most unreliable Toyotas were the older ones built in Japan, they only seem more reliable because the American counterparts were worse.

Used to like the older ones better, until I finally bought a new one, man it is nice…not going back. Have no desire to drive my 1st Gen anymore.

Yeah a pickup based on the Sienna platform (which is basically built on the Camry’s, right?) would be nice, the Hybrid gets 36 mpg, if they did that, be great completion against the Ridgeline and Maverick.

2nd and 3rd Gen interior dimensions are near identical since they share the same cab.

Think DCs are popular for the coolness factor, though there is a time slot where kids are grown out of the car seats yet aren’t adult size yet it does work. Do believe a lot of people buy trucks for the coolness factors over being practical, Americans tend to be all about image. When a minivan with loads of interior room and great gas mileage would serve them better.
I owned single cabs before, extra cabs seem to suit me the best, like have that extra storage room, seems easier to toss groceries in there, than unlocking my topper. Plus I always carry a duffle and jackets back there too. Needed more bed space than passenger room, DCLBs are too long for me, might as well buy a full-size then.

Believe car people finally figured out what truck people knew all along (I have only owned trucks as my main vehicle) we like to ride up higher, have a much better view of the road, though when everyone else is doing it, that commanding view of the road lessens. Maybe why trucks are getting bigger and bigger…

^^THIS is one of the reasons I initially liked my New 1993 Isuzu Rodeo 5-speed. Then we flipped back to something my wife could drive: 1996 Honda Accord.

Our family grew as we got stationed in Hawaii in 1999. We left Hawaii with a 2003 Honda Pilot...although, I initially wanted an Odyssey van for the spaciousness, my family leaned towards the Pilot--best decision!

I'm 6'2". The only way you're sitting behind me is if you're an amputee or an infant. My daughters Canyon can comfortably seat 4 adults, so "it's a mid size", is not a good argument. However I love the look of it, and that look would change if the cab was higher. I love the looks and brand, and I don't need rear seating often.
