    I'd rather go through insurance than go through the courts and have a death on my conscience.

    That's just me though. I suppose if you really want to kill a person for a truck, and it's your right, go ahead.

    Never understood the whole thing about posting who you'd kill, who you'd shoot etc...
    Seen a few of these over the years where the attorney for the family of the poor unfortunate shooting 'victim/shitbag' did a deep dive search on social media - like this - and used it against the person who shot someone over a cat convertor, siphoning gas, wheels, entire vehicle etc...
    Don't matter to me what anyone does, but just sayin'...

    I know how you feel. Years ago my car was broken into in my driveway. I had the same feeling - Violated. Unfortunately, they never caught the jackasses that broke into my car.

    The Toyota app tells me when the doors are unlocked for 10 min. Would this also help? Sometimes it tells me to check the back seat if I left something back there. It also shows me the location. Did op have the service active? I hear a lot of these are ending up in Nigeria and are selling for double the price here.

    It was active, but deactivated when they programmed the new key. When I open my Toyota connect app, my location is not found, and all of the information that was normally provided is no longer there. Hence me saying Toyota could improve their security. Programming a new key should not disable it from its original identity.

    wow I missed that. Crazy! I just ordered a faraday box. Also going to beef up my cameras. Also thinking about cleaning my garage out completely so I can fit both vehicles. It tends to get full of tools, bikes, quads, etc. and then my expensive trucks sits outside. Doesn’t make much sense.

    Yeah the Toyota app is mostly a dumpster fire. Seemed kinda cool in the begining but it became so glitchy I eventually unistalled it. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. I think I still have a month or two free from my current free trial period....but I'm good. If it were free maybe I'd give it another go (if the kinks get worked out) but I'm not paying a subscription fee for an unreliable app that really doesn't do anything my fob and a couple air tags don't do.

    Edit: Maybe my old ass android phone didn't help things but I still don't want to pay for an app just to tell me if my doors are locked.

    I am going to upload the full video for those that are interested in seeing their break in process. To clarify about previous questions from members;

    -I do have notifications sent to my phone from my doorbell camera. (They were smart enough to enter my property where it is not triggered.)
    -My Hikvision cameras do have a setting in which I can be sent notifications if something enters my property. (It was deactivated when every rodent and branch swaying in the wind would set it off.)
    -I have a large dog. (They were quiet enough for him to not hear them, and he barks at every single annoying sound.)
    -I have a flood light and it was illuminated and on them the entire time they were there. (They must have cased my neighborhood and new it is quiet enough to not have to worry about someone driving by at that time of the morning.)
    -My car alarm was on, and my interior lights were active for those who think voltage drop is what triggers the alarm.
    -My garage is too small to fit my Tacoma, and my wife's Tiguan is usually parked in there anyways. (I didn't know I would be considered guilty of having my truck stolen because I chose to park it in my own driveway in one of the safest districts of Montreal.) :crazy:
    -Even if I were to catch them in the act, my only option would have been to call the police. (Any other means would have either ended with me being charged with assault, or shot dead by the perps. Not worth my life, although as I said before, I don't know if I would feel the same way if I had caught them in the act.)

    Having your truck stolen is a major inconvenience. In reference to the member who essentially made it seem like its just a simple replacement from the insurance;

    -Cement gray is one of the major reasons I fell in love with the Tacoma. It is now discontinued and there's not a single color I look at that I don't consider a downgrade. (Obviously that is my personal choice and not a shot at anyone else's truck)
    -I have compiled bills of all of my upgrades which is in the region of 13.5k. The insurance, if any, will give me pennies on the dollar for those items.
    -I have the top tier coverage which only pays for a 30 day car rental. It will take me a minimum of 5 months to get a new truck which leaves me stranded for 4 months.
    -My insurance premium is going to sky rocket and I will ultimately pay for what was not even in my control. If you cause an accident then yes, its excepted, but I did nothing to deserve being financially responsible for this.

    All I'm saying is theft prevention could have made me avoid all of this. I posted this in hopes that some of you would take the extra measures to protect yourselves, and your personal property. I'm referring to mechanical devices to discourage theft, not a slug in the back as that will only complicate your lives more. :canada:

    I would pay a considerable sum once in my life if I could buy a permit that would allow me put down criminals like this on site. Pushing them through the justice system (lol) is a protracted expensive joke, that we each pay for. I’m not impressed. You choose the criminal life, I should be able to choose to end you. Do society a favor.

    OP I understand your rage regarding these random criminal strangers being so close to your sleeping daughter. It’s disgusting. Law abiding citizens should be legally empowered to do more if they wanted when encountering blatant wrongdoing. And I damn sure want to do more about this garbage that’s so ubiquitous.

    I don’t think your insurance is going to skyrocket, that can’t be legal. I heard that was a myth. Those guys must have really staked out the neighborhood, they’ve probably had an eye on your truck for a while just waiting for the day when the container is there. Wish you the best, maybe you’ll get lucky and the dealer will have something similar in their back pocket. My dealer had a jeep on display on the “rock feature” in the parking lot, so I know there are none here.

    Oh look, another mod....
    I can't remember where I read it or where I heard it, but having a vehicle stolen is worse than getting a DUI/DWI. Your rates will triple. I could be wrong about that, and I hope I am. If someone who has had a stolen vehicle would chime in, I'd love to hear it directly from the horses mouth.

    Edit: I found this, and it looks like I am wrong (thank God): https://pocketsense.com/much-go-up-car-stolen-8530506.html

    Hide an AirTag in your truck. Yes it has its flaws but it couldn’t hurt in locating a stolen vehicle
