As someone that’s works with it daily. I hate the Ethanol in the fuel. Even the gaskets made to deal with fail after enough time. They get hard and brittle. Or if it’s the wrong type. Just melts away.
Plus the fact that the Ethanol is coming from such highly subsidized corn farms. It should be cheaper than non ethanol by quite a bit.

Yea definitely sounds like air. You have the link to the service manual. I think it lays out some bleed points for air.

Wait. For reals??? We have bleed points? I don' have the manual readily available. Have the link handy? I can Google it later if not.

Good to see you around the thread Dave. What did you end up doing with the disfigured Taco? You may have said, but I can’t remember.

I took the insurance settlement because it was almost double what I expected. Poor little Whitey was totaled and the whole truck was kinda bent into the shape of an uncooked bratwurst with the driver's side completely smashed up from front bumper to rear bumper. After I got out of the emergency room and went to go look at it at the towing yard, of course my plan was to keep it and transfer all the good parts to another 1st gen. But the front suspension, bumper and skid plate were all severely damaged and one of the CV axles was sticking out of the front diff at an odd angle with gear oil oozing out. That would've left me the rear Harrop e-locker and MAYBE the old man emu leaf springs that would be worth saving.

I want something a little different next, maybe a 1996-2002 4Runner or a 2nd gen regular cab Tacoma. I'd even consider a 1st gen regular cab Tundra but those are super-rare. Now is such a shit time to buy a vehicle, though. Almost any Toyota 4X4 under 150,000 miles in halfway decent shape is north of $15K. That's my breaking point where I'd rather put the money toward something brand new. The respectable automotive media like Car & Driver are expecting the 4th gen Tacoma to be revealed for the 2023 model year. If that's true and it's still available with a manual gearbox, I'll probably order a new one.

Test or replace your radiator cap. If it won't hold the rated pressure your coolant will boil at a lower temperature and overfill the surge tank.

that's actually not a bad idea. when it had cooled, i had opened up the cap and immediately there was pressure going into the reservoir. and literally in the middle of the night last night I thought about the cap maybe not allowing somethign to go through. i'll check it today. thanks.

Yeah, okay I remember that you posted some pics, and it was a tangled mess. It was damn fine rig.

I’ve been having some 4Runner urges lately. I really don’t know why I’m having them.

Everything is insanely priced right now. I was at Mark Miller last week and they have like five vehicles on the lot. Who knows where this is going to end, and what it will look like on the other side.

So, did you get the home all put back together? Find someone to do the masonry, or did you DIY it?

I don't know if this will work on a Taco, but my Cherokees would get air bubbles in them if I serviced the coolant/stat/etc, and the fix for me was to take it over to a VERY steep hill and put the vehicle engine up on the incline... and then revving the engine several times, finally holding about 3K rpms for about thirty seconds. Solved the problem for me... but the incline has to be STEEP.

One of the issues with gas is getting contaminants from a tank that is too low when refilled.

Appreciate it. I think the radiator cap might've done it. I put a new one on there and it was much happier with the coolant and i was feeling hot air come through the vents on idle. good sign. I haven't had a chance to reallyd rive it around but i'll give it a good drive around this evening and see waht else is up.

this is a good idea. except I already live on a pretty steep hill. lol. I'll give it another good steep drive and find an even steeper hill somewhere. thanks fo rhte advice.
