Originally a thread called Another JDM treasure I found at a cars and coffee!...

This is a 1987 Toyota Soarer GT Turbo, the JDM version of what became the Lexus SC in North America; This generation was never sold in America as a Toyota or a Lexus. This car may seem mostly stock, but the owner swapped in a 2JZ from a newer Supra; The car is fully functional, though the A/C system has been removed (the owner does plan on putting A/C back in). The owner recently moved to Pennsylvania from Texas because his wife got a new job here; This is my first time seeing a Soarer in person, but I am hoping to see more and more of these JDM Toyotas here in the states as they become legal to register and drive under the 25-year loophole (This example is a 1987, and has been legal here since 2012 as a result)!

That is sweet. I was just looking at old beat up Honda civics yesterday.
I don’t know why, I miss my old Civic Si. That little B16A2 stood up to some abuse.
Now that I’m older, I’d just like to do a swap just because “I can”. Not necessarily to even run it hard.
Will I do it? Probably not. Mostly because I really don’t like working on stuff unless I have to.
And I have a lot of stuff I have to work on now.

I wouldn't want this one without functioning A/C though; The owner converted the A/C to R134a and it was working great, but then he removed it when he did the 2JZ swap...

 

2JZ-GTE VVTi swapped (likely with an R154 trans too), very neat! Very nice upgrade from the factory 1G-GTE that those generation GT Twin turbos came with. The factory aero and Panasport G7 wheels adds a nice period correctness to it. 90's Toyota digital dashes were also the coolest things ever.

 

How about a factory Technics AM/FM stereo cassette?!?! Unfortunately, this will not pick up any radio stations in North America as they use different frequencies in Japan; The cassette player will accept our cassettes though!
