Local experience needed. Heading to four corners from Longmont and gonna be towing my 4,700 TT.
    Looking at…

    1. i70/191 - Personally I’d prefer i70 as we came up I25 and I hate back tracking but the last few days there’s been a bit of snow up high, and wind! (Plus be nice to stop by Moab)
    2. I25/160 - La veta and wolf creek pass seem a bit intimidating, 2k feet climb in less than 10miles at high elevation is up there. But there’s really no snow from this past storm.
    3. I25/550 - meh, the more boring and safe way to go…

Have towed 4k miles this year so I know my truck/tt pretty well but would like to know the inside scoop especially on 160…

    Cheers!

Take the route you want, but keep your mirrors adjusted and pull off every two minutes when a half dozen cars are stuck behind you.

I70 & 160 are at least 2 lanes on grades so I shouldn’t need to pull off, but of course I drive with common sense and etiquette.

I was more looking for real experience of the highways but thanks any way…

I have a supercharger and no trailer, so… the hillier routes are more fun for me.
@eurowner any opinions on towing a heavy trailer over wolf creek pass?

If you do tow over wolfcreek pass. Be sure and stop to rock hound the Blue agate geodes at the pass where DOT carved the mountain off. Heck chill an hour and let the brakes cool down.

Get some Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2's when Mountain States Toyota does a "Buy 3 tires get the 4th for $1" deal. Mine have definitely helped me in bad road conditions where I would have been worse off with the stock AT factory tires.

We lived 8,500ft up above Estes and the right tires make a huge difference during winter.

I had a set of Cooper AT3 that I couldn’t recommend more, they did great as a year round tire and were very capable in the snow/ice on our RX300.
Also had a set of studded arctic claw tires on a civic. Game changer during the winter and made driving the 1/2 mile compacted ice/snow gravel road to our house fun.

Remember with snow… either drive like a grandma or drive it like a rally car… :burnrubber:

The hillier routes are more fun without a trailer… period :)

Id love a SC if Toyota still did one as OEM, would make the taco an even better tow vehicle.

I-70/550 is NOT the way to go with a tow rig. 550 will have construction delays between Colona and Silverton. Narrow road without guardrails. Wolf Creek and either La Veta or US 285 are the way the locals do it.

Yep. Self install of the Magnuson. Easy to install if you have tools and skill. Tows my 3k trailer with ease. S4 up 10k plus elevation 3500 rpm 65mph - plenty of power to pass. 65 to 80 in a flash. Best option for true useful power. Now using YotaWerx SC Tune which fixes Maggy oem dead pedal. Shifts like glass. 21mpg town 16mpg towing.

$$ was and is a consideration. Was better option than selling and going to Tundra. Self install saved some cash. Now fun to drive and no second thoughts.
