Two weeks and 3500 miles later, the truck's back in the garage... with the cat intact, even.

Utah, Death Valley, California from Santa Cruz to San Diego with quick stops at the Grand Canyon and Four Corners on the way home.

Thanks to @turbodb for the Death Valley pointers.

Did you go down the Pacific Coast Highway through Big Sur on your way down from Santa Cruz? Just hoping you didn't take Interstate 5 through central CA because former is one of the most beautiful drives in the country and the latter is one of the most boring haha.

Just need to find one tool box that's within 34-37" tall, that'll take the width of the workbench so it can be stowed underneath.

Wife has her 'coffee bar' area done up.

Just put in the beds in 2 rooms.

    Brought in all our clothes.

Need to install the new blinds we got.

I got plenty of 5 on my way to Monterey from Death Valley (via Bakersfield)--up to around Coalinga, then over to the 101 via 198. Seeing the produce operations south of Salinas was interesting--very different from the midwestern agriculture I'm used to seeing. The trip back south was mostly on the 101, but I got a good taste of the coastal highway as well.

I was based out of Monterey for a few days. Drove PCH up to Santa Cruz and back one night. Rode my bike from Carmel Highlands to Big Sur Bakery (Loma Vista) and back another day. Got in a short bike ride on 17 Mile Drive through Pebble Beach. Took the 101 from Monterey to Long Beach (with a short stop in San Luis Obispo) and the 5 to San Diego. Long Beach to San Diego was the least fun by far--eight lanes in each direction and nobody can agree on which lanes are the fast ones and which are the slow ones.

I know I missed some good parts of the PCH between Loma Vista and San Luis Obispo, but I thought the 101 was an impressive drive anyway. I got a kick out of the big descents coming into every town. SLO especially, since I didn't realize I had been gaining altitude until I saw a chain-up area. I think it's something like 800-1000ft down from top of the pass?

I had a lot to fit into the trip--trying to match other people's schedules to meet up with them--and not enough time to do it all properly. Only had one day in Death Valley, too. I've got a better idea of where I want to spend time in the future now, though.

I thought about hitting you up, but I only had a gravel bike and didn't have the time to spare.

Next time I'm out that way...

I'll also be sure to find something for @Kwikvette to weld. Maybe a proper rack/mount system (bumper with swingout?) for my jerry cans. Ratchet straps worked fine but I don't think they earned me any #overland points.

If you can piece/draw it, sure!

I got one project I need to knock out for a member here. Just need to buy a cart for the new house and a bottle of gas.

I'll have to look again. I know they've got the bigger tool boxes on sale, but didn't see smaller ones.

Apparently, the Vulcan welding cart is perfect for the bulky ass TIG welder I've got. It's a super tight fit but it works to securely hold an +80lb machine.

If HF is open tomorrow, I'll pick it up on the way to some other stores.

Figured I'll just roll the Milwaukee Pack Out boxes under the bench.

Oh and @Sperrunner I met someone that has more Milwaukee gear than you (that I've seen). Lives 4 houses down from me. Greeted him and met his family, so I called my wife over; super cool family!

Turns out he owns a "Computer Shop" and does IT work, as well as build gaming PCs. Saw his personal rig in his garage, freaking latest and best Intel with RTX3080TIs and more. Anyway his whole van has Milwaukee Pack Out littered all over the inner walls and doors

Unexpected road trip problem: I have sore spots on my right heel from my foot spending so much time on the gas pedal. No cruise control in my truck.

I also found my feet (mostly my left foot when it was resting off the clutch) sliding around a lot on the Husky floor mats. Anybody with WeatherTechs have that problem?

I only rock Milwaukee power tools, not a fan of their hand tools or bags/organizers
