First, do they really improve MPG? Will they harm a high mileage engine? And are these things reliable? I see that they list the same part number for 2005-2021 Tacomas. Are they only for 6 cylinders or do they work with my 2012 2.7L 4 banger?

They don't harm much except for driveline as its a bit more aggressive with take off. The gas pedal is what is interrupted and it is the same pedal for all models.

I personally don't like it, some do. It's too sensitive for my liking, but my customers always have it set to high.

Not sure how it could improve MPG or damage an engine, all it does is intercept the signal from the accelerator pedal and modify it to tell the PCM your pushing it more or less (depending on the setting) than you actually are.
In short it effectively changes accelerator pedal mapping, nothing more nothing less.

I have read claims that they can offer like 2 mpg when installed. Also, I understand that it is just a change in throttle response, but I didn't know if this could add undue stress on a high mileage engine etc. I really like the idea of having a torchier response when I press on the peddle. I just don't want it at the cost of reliability or longevity etc. Thank you for reaching out.

    No.

Will they harm a high mileage engine?
    No.

    And are these things reliable?
    Yes.

I have 2014 4cyl and like mine, I would buy it again. I had 96K when installed and have 146K now.

Thanks for the help, much-appreciated info. They are on sale this weekend. I think I'll take the plunge.

UPDATE; Fellas, thank you. I took advantage of the sale they are having over the holiday. Thank you for your input. Now if I can just get enough info on my front coils to order them.

I would recommend heeding Post #2 by @Bishop84, I experimented with the thing a lot when I got it. I settled for one of the lower setting (7 Green). It does get pretty sensitive if set too high.
I am unsure how it works exactly but I know that it will give you a far more satisfying drive.

I have had mine in for about 12,000 miles now. It really makes the 2.7 liter 5 speed combo peppy. I installed it and settled on the #4 sport setting. Unplugged the remote and threw it in the glove box. It stays set at whatever you have it at when you unplug the remote, and nobody would ever know you have one in it. The higher settings are way too sensitive.

It only simulates the driver pushing more or less on the throttle pedal than they actually are (depending on mode). It DOES NOT change the throttle pedal to throttle body mapping thats coded in the ECU.

Who cares? It improves my driving experience. It works and I'd buy it again.

And that's fine, but the false information that's spread about these devices on how they "reduce throttle body lag" "remap the throttle pedal" etc is rampant, just setting the record straight
