I had three Spirograph sets of different sizes. (My parents could not keep us in ballpoint pens.)

One of them was a knock-off though. The gears were colored instead of clear.

    For the military folks...
Remember being deployed overseas and waiting for your weekly 5 min autovon call back home. And the subsequent base operator cutting you off mid-sentence at the 5 min mark.
    :annoyed:

Nowadays they get to Facetime. Maybe technology ain't all bad. :)

I do miss "Trigger" ... 1st pic in our Shack Thread.

Oh yeah, MooseBoy was no less heavy handed than the MooseMan.

I had to refresh myself on this one.

Hawaii minimum wage jumped from 3.35 to 3.85 while I had my first “job” in the school printing center. Teachers would supply an original and a hand written order form with quantity and options, department billing code, etc. I think they were nearly always for handouts in class. We had reams of paper in every color, some with 3 holes some without, and multiple copy machines which could staple small bundles. We could also spiral bind or assemble into 3 ring binders of various thickness. Ink, paper, supplies and power were all costs of concern back then. I remember we had a press to drill holes in paper if we ran out of the 3 hole stock. It was a well run mini business even though it was fully funded by the school. Mostly it was my first exposure to anything like that and I found it fascinating. I never thought for a second about the fact that every single adult working there was female.

But I sure was confused by the wage jump. I couldn’t understand why I got 50 cents more for the same thing.

Judging by the minimum wage you quoted, those must have been Xerox copies? I remember minimum wage being $1.15/hr when I first flipped "Steerburgers" and made Roast Beef Po-boys.
I also remember the wonderful smell of freshly made copies from the grade-school mimeograph machine... with that purple-ish colored ink.

    I remember. Frustrating as hell.

Did you ever use the MARS system?
You called the comms center via landline; they'd link with another CC back in the states via radio; then that stateside center would place a landline call to the number you wanted. The two centers would hold the phone to the radio mic. You had to say "over" to let the radio operator know to release the mic transmit button so that the other end could talk and also move the ear piece to the speaker.
Worked well, but was not private in any sense of the word; had to be careful what you said.
At least they would give you a warning before your time was up.

Every once in a while I'll tell my wife "I love you, over!"
