The twisted stars came on 01-04 Tacomas. 15 vs 16 all depends on decided tire size. 33x10.5r15 KO2s drop ~8lbs vs the 285/75r16 KO2 and my current tires of the same size. Going to a 32x11.5r15 drops an impressive 10lbs. The wheels likely weigh slightly less as well.

    Yes. Most definitely.

Solid info on the reinforcement. Ordered.

Good point on the brakes, but unlikely to go to a larger brake upgrade. Likely just upgraded rotors and pads. This won't be the extreme builds done on my other trucks with high horsepower.

Unique for sure. I prefer the DCSB wheel base though, but would really like it in a 5spd. The difference from 4 gears to 5 is huge.

I grenaded the engine in spectacular fashion. The transmission is fine, it is the same one used by Toyota in vehicles like the new Supra.

Only Toyota. I honestly hadn't searched the Toyota/Lexus lineup. But it is used in many much higher horsepower vehicles outside of Toyota and Jeep. Engineering Explained has a decent video on the ZF 8HP.

It is also amazing to me I can order a 20 year old OEM interior seat trim piece directly from Toyota and it is readily available. I'll wait for the seat reinforcement to install.

    Oh really?

I'm curious, got vids or pictures?

Were you turning the boost up or what?

    Did it fall under warranty?

Hope to have pics this week. Couldn't see it from under the truck as things were too tight around the block. It occurred on the driver side though, as everything was covered in oil. Stock Magnuson SC install and tune, no increase in boost. I suspect the engine was possibly defective and the SC accelerated it, but hard to say for certain. Jeep refused to warranty it because of the SC.

Personally not a fan of the look on 1st Gen. I ordered new OEM assemblies and will likely put some upgraded bulbs in for now that I have on hand. If I need more I'll go with this.

For retros, I'd strongly recommend an OEM HID projector like the D2S RX350s. Most all aftermarket ones do not have uplight, and while retro companies like to show how cool that might look it is actually a bad thing that limits your ability to see at night. If you absolutely don't want to pay for the OEM grade gear, at least get a legit HID bulb base, and not garbage like mini H1, as there is no legitimate H1 HID bulbs, so you'll be limited to low performing china products. You might find this post interesting comparing performance OEM grade HID bulbs vs aftermarket Morimoto, post #5506.

Even my kid knows better and chews you out for them.

Yup, sounds par for the course for Jeep.

They refused me warranty in the past for the dumbest loop hole then lied to my face, gave me the run around and ultimately told me to suck it.

Fuck Dodge and any and all of their affiliated brands.

Nope, that's just Jeep quality at work!

But I mean you can't say we didn't try to warn you...

That seriously sucks, any chance insurance will do anything for you?

    Small claims court?

    True.

Not worth my time on something that would be very difficult to prove with low likelihood of success. Just fixing it and selling it, cutting the losses and moving on.

yeah retro fitting the old headlights never really looks good. And I got one of these https://www.theretrofitsource.com/morimoto-sealed3-90mm-universal-headlights?quantity=1
be interested to see what you think of it. My plan is to actually cut the whole backside of the light out and make it as slim as possible for more space for tire clearance… so it was between these or using led pods from Baja or DD, but Nick Han talked me out of that idea.

Looks sweet, 1st Gen best Gen :D . Any idea how to get to the bolts holding the reservoir down? Mine is leaking too, instead of fixing it I’ve just not had fluid for a couple years…. Maybe I’ll fix it one day haha
What camper is that, looks sweet!

I'll probably pull the plug on the Rivian order and stick with the 1st Gen + Tesla Model 3. The Rivian is a super sweet truck, but at the $100k price point it would be an only vehicle (no Tacoma or Tesla). The Rivian has some limitations in charging that make it not as ideal for an only vehicle for my purpose and I think the Tesla plus having a traditional gas truck make more sense, while also being less expensive. I've debated this with myself plenty.

I really can't say, as I haven't tried those myself. I've never been very impressed with a Morimoto product though. Definitely don't use pods, no pods come in a proper headlight pattern.

I've already removed the reservoir, there are 3 bolts in the passenger fender well plus a plastic clip. The front side of the wheel well lining is actually attached to the reservoir and comes out with it. There is also 2 plastic flanges that must be squeezed on the neck in the engine bay to drop the filler neck down the hole in the sheet metal. Quick youtube video will show how. Hardest part is unplugging the electrical connectors with years of grime.

I feel exactly the same way. I think the R1S is the better of the two really, the truck is just so expensive you can't really use it like a truck unless you have so much money that you can't possibly need to do anything with a truck vs pay someone else to do it for you. Not an ideal overlander, not exceptional at long distances, questionable towing, heavy to begin with.

Absolutely awesome in so many damn ways but with that price tag, I'm just stuck in limbo.

Keeping the first gen is a fun plan. My neighbor sold his 2018 DCLB and went first gen Taco and leased Tesla Y, he is happy.

Personally, I have no love for Elon and since Tesla sent my deposit to my dad's checking account when I pulled the plug I had to bail. It's a great vehicle but not a fun car to mod, just as my '13 prius was no fun to mod. Cool and slick transportation. Just not what I'm into, the minivan is actually more fun to mess with.
