Metric system? o_O I can't believe that it didn't handle 185% of its rated cutting size!{sarcasm} Where is the auxiliary handle, and the user was probably cutting at full speed too, they probably should have had it on slow speed and barely 50RPM. That drill is toast and not because of the manufacture, it was 100% user abuse. As for it being yellow... people who don't know how to use tools will always trash them regardless of the color.

How big are the holes you’re drilling? If I were you and getting an SDS plus I wouldn’t get that one. In fact I would only get a SDS that has both hammer drill and chisel at the minimum. I own both the M18 Fuel hammer drill and the Ryobi SDS plus 1”.

If you’re just drilling 3/8” holes I would suggest M12 fuel hammer drill, if you’re drilling 5/8” holes M18 Fuel Hammer drill. SDS plus for larger than 5/8” holes but I would suggest the Milwaukee M18 FUEL 1 in. SDS-Plus D-Handle Rotary Hammer (Tool-Only), this has the chisel features you’ll want in the future. Or if you already have some 18v Ryobi tools then get the Ryobi ONE+ HP SDS plus it’s more compact and the same price or cheaper depending on what else you buy with it.

I'm using small 3/16" x 1 1/4" tapcon screws to attach the signs, so not big. I think that calls for a 5/32" bit.

I suppose the M12 Fuel Hammer Drill would make sense for that task. I do have some decks coming up this summer and I'll need to drill holes into footings to attach posts, etc. That's why I was thinking the SDS Plus.

I don't envision needing the chisel feature, but you make good points.

    Hmmmmm

I don't know anything about rotary hammers but this seems like the best deal right now. Not sure on the two different styles, long vs short.

The D-handle is a great tool by my understanding but it’s an old design.

This is my Ryobi for the same money as the D-handle, or for $109.5 if you buy another Ryobi qualifier. Nice compact design, great tool. It’s sitting in my HFT hard case. 8B5CCC42-14C2-4614-AEB2-43D226CDF8CB.jpg

I do like the compactness of the newer (non D handle) models.

What’s your price on the M18 hammer drill out to @Sig45 ? :boink:

    :anonymous:
I’m still of the idea that the SDS plus is the way to go if you’re going to be using it for work, just make sure you get the chisel feature! IMHO.
